Looking to potentially do build DIY setup or the HLG scorpion for 5x10 grow area. Previously I was set on the HLG scorpion, but after some digging looks like I can build the same light for relatively cheaper.

    6 qb 288s- $475
    Meanwell 600-$180
    Misc. comp/frame material- $75
    Total- $730

HLG scorpion is on sale for $899 and comes with a 3 year warranty. Am I on the right path with the DIY or would you say go with the scorpion for the warranty, or a complete different setup? Looking to really keep lighting the 5x10 area under $2000,

  2. Forgot heat sinks. That adds about another $150 to the DIY. Seems for $40 might as well get the premade scorpion

  3. The scorpion Rspec for $899 is a really good deal on a premade lamp.
You would need two of them for a 5x10 though.

  4. You will save money building your stuff....whether you pick and latest and greatest technology will determine if it can compare with scrop but you would need more than just that for a 5x10

  5. Horticulture lighting group is now selling there qb diablo boards with heatsinks now. Why not try and do a combination of qb288v2 Rspecs with qb288 v2 Bspecs.
