5mm borosilicate vs. 9mm regular glass

  1. If all other aspects of a bong were the same, including price. While the only difference being the type of glass and the thickness, what would you purchase? A bong made from 5mm thick borosilicate glass or 9mm thick regular glass? If you could also provide a little reasoning behind your decision as well, that would be appreciated.

  2. Do you mean soft glass by "regular glass"? Boro is stonger

  3. If we are talking just boro then I don't give a care for thickness, as most pieces are going to use 5mm, 7mm, or 9mm tubing anyway. If a piece is made with quality glass and annealed well then thats all I care about.

Also the brand of glass is important to, if it's Asian tubing I avoid the that shit, it's full of minerals, sometimes air bubbles, dirt, and stress. I only use that shit for playing around and quick cheap shit, otherwise I'll grab some Simax or would use Schott Duran if I had some.

Which would you say is the strongest of the two kinds of boro? The simax or the schott duran?

  5. That's a pretty hardcore question I've heard most people refer to Schott as being a higher quality, but in my experience of working with the both I'd rather use Simax because I really like the way it melts and it's realllyyyy clear glass, awesome for it's optical quality. It's also pretty resistant to thermal shock.

Ok so in the end is there such a thing as a water pipe made of quality glass that costs around $100? That is at least 5mm thick. The following two links are what I was looking at.

    http://www.grasscity.com/us_en/blaze-glass-beaker-base-5mm-glass-bong-cobalt-blue.html#.UKKnXbs1jOg

    http://www.grasscity.com/us_en/blaz...clear-glass-beaker-base-5mm.html#.UKKnP7s1hWw

But any recommendations will be would be appreciated. Originaly I was looking at a 9mm thick no name water pipe on grass city that was made with regular glass (soft glass I suppose). But then I saw the blaze stuff for about the same price that was made from borosilicate glass. Just they were made from thinner glass.
