Hey everyone, I plan on growing for the first time soon and I have decided to use a grow tent. I can only put it in the basement and the ceiling is not much over 5'. Most of the decent sized tents seem to be at least 6' tall. Does anyone know of a good tent that is 5' tall and larger than 3' long and 3' deep? If not, are grow tents okay to use in garages because I could put one in the garage but the temp is much colder.
You can use a grow temp in the garage but make sure you can keep the temperature inside the grow temp at optimum grow range. mid 70's is what most would say is a good temp. As far as 5' tall.... I have no idea. I've never seen one that short, but then again, I didn't search for one. Try Amazon and Ebay, they have a lot to look through
How many plants could I possibly fit in a 3'x3'? Also, would it hurt to cut the poles down a couple inches to make the tent fit?
no need to cut poles or grow in a garage. get the Secret Jarden Darkroom Twin 90T it is a 3x3 and the best part about it is that is has a propogation tent that comes with it. the bottom bigger section is 5 feet tall and all the vent ports are on the side instead of the top its what i use and its BOSS! the top portion for propogation or bonsai moms is 3x3 2ft tall the two parts are detachable. i use the smaller one in the spare room for kitchen veggies and the bigger part is..... elsewhere it comes in 3x3 (90T) and 4x4 (120T)
that depends on ur growing style, lights everything. u could fit tons of small ones or a few large ones. whatever u can fit in a 3x3 or 4x4 area
Waznyf, research LST, Scrog, topping, fimming via the search on here. Depending on what you think you want to do, those should help you. Technically, you could grow one big ass Christmas tree if you got a tall growth strain and kept moving the lighting upwards as it grew or 4 low growing stains if you low stress trained them to lay down for you the right way.....
You can cut the poles if you need to, but the only issue is that you will have a lot of extra fabric that is loose and not pulled tight because the height was cut down so much. A better solution is to just get a tent that fits your space. (one might have been posted above, I didn't read the thread).
I've decided to buy the Secret Jardin Dark Room Pro DR90 II Grow Tent. It is 71" tall but I measured an unfinished room in my basement which measures 72". Now my only concern is that it will be hard putting the canvas over the frame with 1" to work with and that it may be to warm, as the tent will be located by the furnace.
did you at least take a look at the darkroom twin? i think it better suites your needs. one inch of headroom can work but u cant really have any venting stuff at the top
I did see it but I don't think I'll need a propagation section. Couldn't I have ducting or venting hang down a little?
I've asked this question in another thread, but maybe you can answer it also. How well would a carbon filter, ozone generator, and spray do to eliminate the smell? Could you give me a percentage?
You could get rid of the smell entirely if you have a good carbon filter. Of course, noses differ. While I can't smell my grow, others may be able to, but my mother, my fiance's mother, my friends don't notice a bit and they don't know about my grow. I have a huge grow room (aside from the tent) it's 10 foot by 12 foot and resides in my basement, we or guests don't smell a thing. I run two carbon filters and mist my plants with nitrogen laced water which has one drop of lemongrass essential oil and one drop of eucalyptus oil. I run two carbon filters. There are tons of DIY threads on how to build one or you can order some very nice ones online for about 100 dollars (with a good CFM fan). I built one myself and bought one on amazon.com with an inline fan. If you do get a carbon filter and fan, make sure it fits the size vent holes your tent has and you get a fan that can move a lot of air.
I forgot I wanted to quantify my response that the quality of your carbon filter will vary your results.
AFAIK (correct me if I'm wrong) carbon filters pretty much only vary by the amount of carbon they contain, and the more carbon the longer they can scrub the air effectively. So cheaper ones should work fine, but you will need to replace them more often. Just be sure to match the CFM ratings of your fan and carbon filter, and determine the CFM required based on the volume of the tent.
99.9% I have a tent 6 feet away from my beer fridge. No one noticed. My brother in law definitely would have noticed as he smokes daily. I told him and he was amazed. I have noticed the stinkiest time is three days after harvest. If you are worried, you could always buy a second carbon filter/fan and just have that run in the same room as the tent. There are varieties that smell less too. Killer Queen (on week 4 of flower right now, not too smelly at all) Northern Lights (not #5) Blue Mystic to name a few I have heard a lot of the citrus varieties smell less Stay away from Big Buddha Cheese and Sour Diesel
There are other factors too, you mentioned CFM or how much air the fan can move past the carbon, but also the quality of the carbon, the surface area of the carbon, how much, how efficient the air is moved through the filter (pressure varies on design build). Something like this works well [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Hydropronic-Inline-Carbon-Filter-Control/dp/B002ZJNW1S/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1300832134&sr=8-3]Amazon.com: New Hydropronic 4" Inline Fan With Carbon Filter Combo Odor Control Air Quiet: Patio, Lawn & Garden[/ame] I have built my own for an internal room and have one of these for my tent.
