    Well thats no fun, theres no ambiguous answers to debate about. Once you remember A^2+B^2=C^2 and S=o/h, C=a/h, T=o/a, itll take you 30 seconds.

    This! The divison sign means the number before it represents to top dot (ie the numerator) and the number after it is the denominator.

    Hence

    48 = 48 = 2
    2(12) 24

    See above.

    It's still ambiguous... Here is a proof showing the answer is 2:

    "Let's take what we know here and just say that x=9"

    48/2(x+3) = 2
    48/(2x+6) = 2
    4x = 36
    x = 9

    This is why anyone who knows even a modicum of maths doesn't use division signs.

    48/2(x+3) = 2
    24(x+3)=2
    24x+72=2
    24x=-70
    x=-70/24

    Wrong, 48/(2x+6)=(24x+8)
    24x=-6
    x=-4.
    -4 does not equal 2, and your answer is wrong.

    Let x = 48 and let ???? = 2

    x/2(9+3) = 2

    x/24 = 2

    therefroe x = 48
