Y'all thought I was trolling with some gr 2 math. This is deep sh!t right here. This is like a nobel peace prize equation.
everyone agrees that brackets (parenthesis in this case) come first. so 48/2(9+3) =48/2(9+3) but does the division of the 48/2 come before the multiplication of 2(9+3) ? lol
Lol you're the idiot in this case. MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION ARE INTERCHANGEABLE. IT'S NOT MULTIPLICATION FIRST, YOU WORK FROM LEFT TO RIGHT. 48/2(12) The 48/2 comes first, not the 2(12). Get ya mind right. Type the equation into google, and you'll get 288 as well. /thread.
wtf lol the answer is obviously 2 Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally: P E M D A S Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiply, Divide, Add, Subtract 48 divided by 2 times (9 plus three) So first you write it out like that so it's easier to see what to do first. First Step: Parenthesis (9 plus three),(9+3),(12) Second Step: No Exponents, Multiply: 48 divided by 2 times (12) (2x12 = 24) Last Step, you already multiplied, you DIVIDE! from left to right 48 divided by 24 (48 ÷ 24) = 2
you wouldn't read a sentence from right to left would you? 48/2(9+3) = parenthesis first 48/2(12) = multiplication and division are interchangeable, would you read a sentence right to left? Why do you think they teach pemdas here and bedmas another place? Because they are the same fucking thing the 12 is by itself in parenthesis so why the fuck would you multiply that first. You divide. If there is multiplication and division while completing a problem using pemdas you figure it out right to left 48/2 equals 24 24 times 12 is 288
Dude he has used brackets. Not a simple multiplication sign. Brackets are always fully expanded first, before divison/multiplication is carried out. Sort yourself out.
thats nonsense. they are the same thing. when the order of operations says to do brackets first, it means do whatever is IN the brackets first.
Same. If I'm right then I'm right, if I'm wrong then I can blame my math teachers! This thread is full of win. I don't care of I'm right or wrong I just want to see the correct answer.
WHEN THE 12 IS INSIDE THE BRACKET WITH NOTHING ELSE INSIDE TO BE MULTIPLIED ADDED DIVIDED ETC THEN THAT BRACKET/PARENTHESES RULE DOESN'T APPLY sort yourself out edit: ITS 288
Its 288. http://www.quickmath.com/webMathematica3/quickmath/equations/solve/basic.jsp#v1=48/2(9+3)=x&v2=x
PROOF: set x=3 and the answer ???= 288 48÷2(9+x)=288 24(9+x)=288 9+x=12 x=12-9 x=3 CHECKMATE to people who say 2.
If you said the answer was 2, and you're in college, you should probably quit life and go back to gradeschool. EDIT: Thanks for using algebra bluemoon, someone who's not a moron lol.
After further review it is indeed 288. PEMDAS is a shitty saying that has been taught incorrectly to most students. What a shame.
