400w HPS question... *URGENT*

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by pemberton, Sep 28, 2006.

  1. I just hooked up my inside sun referbished 400w hps a couple days ago. The ballast is getting so hot that you can barely touch it, and the grow room temp was up to 103F this morning, even though it was in the 50s last night.

Are HPSs supposed to put off that much heat? Should I go back to my flouros and send it back for another one? I need to know asap... I dont want to come back and find the building burned down.

  2. u sure it's not a 250w ballast? u should check!
If it's under warranty fone them.
max temp on ur ballast should be around 70C

  3. The ballasts get really hot. Put it on a cinder block or something, that way u dont have to worry about fires breaking out.

Make sure you have good ventilation, otherwise ur babies will burn.:(

  4. yea i burned the hell outta my plants sadly because the ballast of a light i had wasnt made for 24/7 useage. so the ballast was almost too hot to touch. now that i switched back to my flouros and cfls, the temp is nicely manageable.
