400w cooltube question?

  1. so im going to be upgrading my current setup of cfls to hps/mh for flowering. does this look like a good deal and setup? havent bought hid lights before so would like a little input on what i should get. thanks for the help everyone :smoke:

  2. Looks good, does it Come with an online fan or will you need one? And how many plants are you looking to grow?

  3. yeaah you'd need the inline fan fer it...shame really considering it's even got both MH and HPS bulbs...looks good regardless, but personally i'd go the extra 200w for a 600 esp if yer looking for a cooltube setup :)

  4. You can get the fan separate. That looks like a good deal op.

  5. with this setup do you think the tent will stay cool enough? I dont have A/C but plan on having an intake from outside and exhaust into my bedroom. do you think i will need a pc fan for the intake or will it create a good enough vacuum to suck fresh air. also i plan on doing this as far as setup filter->cooltube->fan->duct out

  6. Get an ebay tent for $80. Mine's 2x4x7ft. I run a 400w cooltube w/ htg supply's "inline duct fan to cool it, and I use their growbright 4 inch fan and filter combo for the smell.

In the dead of summer, (like 101 degrees outside, I have to keep my apartment 67 degrees to keep my tent cool in the walk in closet, where there is no a/c vent. The rest of the year it's fine. Good luck dude!

  7. are you talking about this inline fan?
HTG Supply - 4" Inline Duct Fan

i wasnt sure if that would be enough to cool it but ill take your word for it.

And about the grow tent which one did you get? (specific brand? probably no brand name though..)

Does it have any light leaks ive heard the cheaper ones usually do? Quality and zippers break yet?

  8. That's a good price for what you're getting, a couple of cautions:

    - Don't see a brand name on that ballast, so you could be running a risk there. Could turn out to be fine, but who knows what kind of reliability to expect.

    - You probably would be better off upgrading from the tube to an air-cooled hood, it will do a much better job of dispersing the light across the whole footprint of your grow space.

  9. Toasty had good advice. I get away w/ the cooltube's light dispersion pattern by growing in a 2x4 rectangular tent, so it works well. If you're going to spread em out over a much bigger space than that, I'd go w/ a bigger hood like he says.

  10. They sell that same cooltube for 150 on amazon.

  11. I really like HTGSUPPLY. they have a store near me and it's great. I have one of their 600w digital ballasts and it definitely rocks. I would highly recommend their products.
I'll be buying a couple more 600w ballasts soon

    Edit:
I think you should get a 600w ballast with their agromax dual arc bulb. Very good setup!

I'm worried that if I get a 600w it will get too hot.. What do you think it's 39"x39"x76" with a 4" inline about 200cfm

  13. you'll be fine with a 600 im runnin a 600 and my area is 33"X72"x95" my only suggestion would be to get a 6in exhaust fan and make sure it's an aircooled hood im running a cool tube with only an 6in inline fan my temps are;
day:78- 87 depending on the day
night:70-75 but im sure in the winter it would get cooler
im also thinking about adding another light kit in there for just thatr much more light per sqft!!!

  14. You'll be fine. Go to homedepot and get one of their 6" "duct booster" fans and wire it up to and extension cord or whatever. They havehigher cfm rating than most of the grow store units.
I have a dr120 4x4 tent and the duct booster keeps it cool even with a 1000w. Just make sure your duct have the straightest piping possible.
Also, don't get a cool tube. They aren't so cool when it comes to temps. An air-cooled hood like the daystar or radiant will do wonders. My advice is to buy an HTG 600 ballast, home depot duct booster, and a hydrofarm hood. That's the best performance for your money. I have 2 brand new cool tubes and they run the hottest out of any reflector I have...temp control is huge in the tents which is why I mentioned it.
Look into a daystar or radiant hood, they are perfect for tents.
I also own raptor hoods, which if you can afford it are amazing. I've priced it out to be around $440 for a HTG 600 digital, HTG agromax dual arc and a raptor hood.

    Happy growing!

  15. 600 watt galaxy with horti bulb and 6inch 400 cfm inline fan. I recommend the 6 in fan. For you sure in that size tent. That's a 8by5by8 walk in closet. Temps stay 79-82 lights on. 77-80 lights off. I still need another couple booster fans for intake and another booster fan sucking air from my door thru the cool tube so it helps the air flow thru my cool tube better. Hope this helps somewhat. ::smoke::

I would definitely like to get a 600 and a bigger hood but only have enough money for a 400w right now I could upgrade in the future. Unless theres a way to get a tent and a fan/filter and light for $600 but I don't think its possible.

im sorry but you need a really good fan for a 600 watt light. Its best to buy as much fan as you can and then use a speed controller to slow it down to the point where the fan works while being as quiet as possible.

I have a 2x4x7 tent with a lumatek 600watt dimmable ballast with 6" cool tube. I have a TD-100 4" 100cfm fan with the Canfan 33 carbon filter. I also have a 6" duct booster fan on the exit of my tent. I need to upgrade my setup because my temps currently range from 4-6* above ambient @ 400 watts. 600watts, my tent gets 12-14* above ambient and is way too hot. I am going to be buying most likely a 300-400cfm 6" fan and see what that does.

At the moment, im unable to use 600 watts in my 2x4 tent with my outside room being 72-75* @400 watts, my room temp is 75*f and the tent temp at the hottest gets to 81* inside.

for price, i paid 330 for the ballast, bulb, cool tube, hangers, 199 for the tent, 60 for the carbon filter, and 130 for both my fans combined. Thats ~720 bucks
