4000 Watt - Williams Wonder - First Grow

Discussion in 'Indoor Grow Journals' started by radman60, Dec 24, 2010.

  1. I've been saying I'm gonna start my grow, so I better put up or shut up..

For the past couple of months I have been edumacating myself by reading what's on this forum, a couple of other ones, subbing to a few journals and following them religiously.

My room is ready to go and awaits my ladies.. :)

The room was ready to go on the 12th and I had been waiting for my clones to arrive.. Got one excuse after another so I finally said the hell with it I'll take what I have learned and start from scratch..

A few months ago I got some seeds with some used lighting equipment that I bought. I was told that these 66 seeds were femmed Williams Wonder seeds (Willy's Wonder) which instantly brought me back to the wonderous 80's :D :D

Because I'm due for surgery in April and I want my first grow to be completed by then, I couldn't wait any longer. So out came the seeds last Tuesday night (Dec 21) at 10:00 p.m. and by using a germinating technique that I was told about awhile back, here is the end result 60 hours later.

60 into the rock wool and 7 more waiting for roots to pop.

Before you ask.. Here is the technique. I should have photographed all the steps but I wasn't intending to conduct a journal at the time..

You will need two sheets of paper towel, a plate small enough to fit into, a plastic ziplock baggie and your hot air.

    1. Place a single sheet of paper towel on the plate.
    2. Soak it (preferably with filtered water).
    3. Pour off all the excess water until it's not dripping any more.
    4. Place your seeds on the plate
    5. Cover them with the second piece of paper towel
    6. Soak it again and gently press on the paper towel to squeeze out as many air pockets as you can. If you don't get them all, it doesn't matter.
    7. Pour off the excess water by tilting the plate over your sink.
    8. Place the plate into ziplock baggie.
    9. Close both ends of the ziplock leaving a small opening in the middle of it.
    10. Exhale into the hole and blow up the baggie.
    11. Seal it.
    12. Place the whole thing onto your heating vent and wait.

I should have mentioned that this will work for all those that have forced air heating systems. ;) I'm sure it will work if the baggie containing the plate is placed over a light bulb or a radiator also.

If you find that the baggie exhausts the air over a period of time just blow into it again. :)

Here's what it should look like:

Day 5: (Start of Day 3 in mini garden) 48 Ladies have now sprouted wings (out of 67 planted) and some are just over 1" tall already...:p

Am tempted to flip them over to 18/6 but I think I'll wait until tomorrow.

    Temp 74 Humidity 100%

  7.

Did you just plant multiple seedlings into the same container . That's a big no no . You did pick a nice strain when it's grown correctly. I would try a transplant sooner than later into individual containers. Good luck.

  8. Humm.. I see your point.. We don't want the roots to get a chance to intertwine even though the bottom of the the rockwool looks like it was designed to fit into individual cups..

Methinks I'll run out and get a tray so I can break up the rockwool and place them into their own cups

Thank you sir for the heads up :)

  9. ooh sounds like you have a lot of hard work ahead of you good luck. psyched to see the come along.:hello:

  10. No problem, just my two cents. I love that strain and wanna see you do well considering the $$ you put into a first grow:cool:. Ill be stopping in and checking things out.

On another note, I'm harvesting a Chrystal plant tonight. Click on my top hyperlink later tonight to see how things turn out. Good luck.

  11. Hummm.. two different stores and both of them are out of seedling trays...

    Tis the season :p

Think I'll be OK until tomorrow..

  12. Thanks kid.. I appreciate ya keeping tabs on me.. :) Had the damn tray and left it in the Hydroponics store cuz the dude in there told me I wouldn't need as the bottom of the rockwool is in the shape of seedling cups..

Gonna get one anyways and break them up.. Better to be safe than sorry ;)

  13. Hiya Symph.. Thanks for looking.. :)

  14. Day 6: (Start of Day 4 in mini garden) 59 Ladies have now sprouted wings (out of 67 planted) and the tallest one has hit 2" already.. :hello:

Day 7: (Start of Day 5 in mini garden)

    Day 1 of 18/6

Gave the babes a little misting last night and a little more just before it was lights out at 9:00 a.m this morning.. Tallest one is a shade under 2.5" this morning.

Methinks I'll be heading out to get a couple of the 1000W MH bulbs warmed up today as I'm pretty sure they are outgrowing the tote and will need transplanting into bigger pots by tomorrow. Besides that, we don't want root migration amongst themselves anyway.

Still have to fill the reservoir with well water, hook up the air pump in order to aerate the water, bring in a couple of bags of soil and spread it out to let it oxygenate and warm up, mix a few co2 cocktails and let the soil absorb it before I start potting. Don't know if introducing co2 to the soil will help but I don't think it will hurt it all...

    Temp 76 Humidity 98%

It's pretty cool how the babes are starting to form their own characteristics.. :)

Day 8: (Start of Day 6 in mini garden)

    Day 2 of 18/6

It's very cool to watch the transformations in each and every babe on a daily basis.

After the first 6 hour break the petals almost doubled in size..

Spent most of the day checking the ventilation and preppiing the pots for the first transplant.

I've got my carbon filter set up on a thermostat and a dimmer switch. Once the temperature reaches 78 degrees (25C) it will kick in... I've also got an intake fan hooked up to to the same system which sucks in cool outside are once the filter kicks in. I use the dimmer switch to slow down the rpm on that 12 inch fan therefore allowing a smother and slower transfer of air into the room.

Underneath the table sits a 35 gallon reservoir. I'm pumping air into it as I've read that aerated water assists in yields. Whether that is true or not, I'm not sure. But the the 'ell it's not a very expensive option to try on for size. :)

I also have 2 oscillating heaters sitting under that table to keep the room at 74 degrees when it's lights out.

Because I'm using an unheated tool shed for my first grow, yesterday I cracked open a bale of AgroPro in one of the bins that I have and let it sit under the lights overnight to get warmed up in preparation for the arrival of the babes. :)

Temp in the mini garden 78... Humidity 98%

  17. It may do since roots and good bacteria require oxygen not co2.

  18. co2 and roots BAD:eek:.Nice set up for mixing soil I like it!

  19. Thanks fellas... Will keep oxygenating the water. I've already killed the co2 for the soil.. WIll introduce the small amounts of homemade stuff once I transplant..

Question for yas.. My babes are about 3" tall right now and my bulbs are 1000 watters.. What would be the recommended suspension height above the tallest plant??

    TIA and Cheers

    Day 9 Recap..
Germination of all seeds: 3 days
Number of days in domed rockwool garden: 6.5
Total number of days from germination start until first transplant: 9.5.
18/6 Veg days: 2 in domed garden and today is the 3rd

Date of transplant into 4.5" pots: December 30/10

It's amazing to see how long the roots got in 9.5 days..

After transplanting the 60 babes and 3 seeds that haven't germinated yet, the temp in the room was 76F and RH (Relative Humidity) was 60% when I left them on their lonesome.

I decided to keep the lights 24" above the top the tallest babe for the next 3 days to see what happens.

    Today's porn.
