400 watt HPS and temp. in small closet

if your closet is small you WILL need plenty of ventilation, I have a 1000 wat light in my closet but it is a pretty decent sized closet, I have 2 fans in there and I leave the closet half way open so all the heat comes out.

 

i got 2 lights......1- 125 watt light ...balice compatible to 200watts.....other light ,Light#2....is 100 watt light holds upto 175 watts..... 2 fans...Lucky ME>>>2 brand new fans hidden in basement...and i got a humidifier..and heater..due to cold weather...feels....like bermuda..in there....i swear...if u start sweating.....ur Nugs should pe pretty....but not hot.....like nutz stickin to the LEg Weather....guyz know what i mean...for the girlz.....when ur LEgz stick to my leather car seats kinda weather....but not HOT HOT>...just Sticking!..haha...spread em ladies.! i luv em all! SO Hot an Sexy!

 

i have a 400 watt in just under a m2 (square meter) i have 2 small 6 inch fans and i desk top fane temps are 25/26 oC lights on and 20 0c lights off

 

How big of a space are you talking about here? 90 degrees is too hot....period. 80 will suffice, but a 400w HPS will put off a LOT of heat. My box right now is 46x24x42, and if I run my light with no fans on the temps could hit 105 easy. Then I got myself one of these babies (see pic) and the temps don't go above 83. When you start trying to cram medium sized HPS lights into a smaller area, computer fans just won't cut it anymore......

 

agreed i use a 400w hps in a small closet sized bathroom and i have a temp of about 81 degrees when lights on and 34 percent humidity but i also have a double fan aimed at canopy and at light/ballast and without the fan on it climbs quickly but i havnt seen it over 90 degrees yet but i wont let it get there either,its also snowing here so that helps

 

I just got 1 of those adjust-a-wing light reflectors,it fits under your 400watt bulb and redirects the heat,i am fitting it today will post pics later

 

Reflectors redirect light not heat. And if this is the one you're talking about, then it's not air cooled, so I wouldn't expect the temps to drop at all........

 

if you need to just pick up a cheap 30 dollar 4" inline fan at home depot, a short piece of 4" ducting, like you use on your clothes dryer. have the opening of the duct near your light to pull heat from your closet and vent it out of closet. for security you might need to put one bend in duct so light doesn't escape closet. the best temps. are between 70 and 75 F. once temps reach 90 degrees growth stops. plants stomato close to keep plant from dehydrating, no co2 equalls no growth. they can take it once and a while with no real damage, but you can deminish your yield. odor control is a whole 'nother issue with lots of answers to suit everyone's taste. I don't know how much security you need to practice. my bedroom reaks of wonderful smelling mj all the time, lol.

fitted it yesterday and have dropped the light 8 inchs closer to the plants and have the same temps as before
i will try and lower it more but ther is only about 8 inchs left between the light and top of the plants

 

Starfish-supplies; lovely, lovely people. I phoned them to order a few syringes for the International mini cup, and they sent me more than I requested with a gluck note.

Anyway, can we see a pic of this heatshield in situ please, along with any observations you may have made about its effectiveness.

It sounds interesting, but it looks like it'll block a lot of light.

I agree, looks like your reducing the direct light by 50% or better.
