Hey all! Been a while since my last project. Figured I’d show what I decided to try. 400 watt 20 plant sog of random bag seed. Yep, I know it wasn’t the greatest idea but I had to try. I started with 30 seeds assuming I’d have some not pop and some be males. Wrong! Every seed popped and all are female. Kept 20 for the sog. Put 8 in a smaller tent that are still vegging, 2 were growing much slower and thin so tossed em. Started in solo cups. All in 1 gallon poly bags now. Did different defoliation throughout it. I want to see how each style works. Another fun test I thought I’d try. Some trimmed much more than others at week 2 of veg. Flipped to flower around week 3. Plants were 8”-12” and stretched to all hell. I had figured triple in height at most. Went 4-5 times higher on a few. It’s been comical. I had to put the tall ones on the sides away from the light and added cfls at the top above the wing on my cool tube. Now on day 25 of flower. Any questions just ask. Will try to post once a week til done. Cheers!
Shirley the extended internode is leading you to deduce something like ...... and its nice and golden colored too some members may object?
I’m a lil confused on both? Extended internode possibly due to probable sativas plus those had a different soil mix. Some of those were defoliated a lot too. Light was always kept close to prevent stretch. Unsure which part was the biggest culprit. Your thoughts? As far as the color I’m guessing due to light being on in pics. They all look really good to me. Maybe I’m wrong.
I agree. A lot of that wasn't caused by being sativa. That's light deprived and over crowded. Might want to think about more light and space for flower. Take a pic when the hps is off so we can see better.
Look at using some supercropping up to about week 4 in flower to prevent all that stretch. It's going to reduce the yield a lot. Only the top buds will get the best light for good development. Nice to see someone growing SOG. I'm really surprised at how uneven the canopy is. I thought that would be the easy part of SOG. Too thick of a canopy does cause stretch as well as light distance. All that stuff in the dark below the top stretches like crazy to try to reach the light.
Well I disagree on the overcrowded. Wasn’t saying it was because they were sativas. Just that didn’t help. Light yea but like I said. I took a gamble on random seed. Was hoping they were males honestly. I added light where it was needed. As far as canopy the main colas are all within 5” of each other except for the tall ones. The uneven is some lower shoots I went ahead and let grow. Again this is random bag seed. I big no no for sog. Y I kept the others in a small tent. Can take clones and do it right after this. As I’ve done in the past I will do a double harvest allowing the underdeveloped buds to mature. I was debating a super crop but when I take the top the bottom usually grows about 20%. Light is within 18” of all major bud sites and main colas.
Supercropping doesn't remove the tops. It's the roll, crease, and bend over stems method. I've been using it for over 2 years now. It gives you an amazing amount of control over the canopy height and shape once you get used to it. Super Cropping Marijuana: Simple Secret to Bigger Yields | Grow Weed Easy It's hard to see much in your pics but the bottom in one looks very dark. Of course in the picture of the pots there's lots of light on them. The distance between your 2nd and 3rd node from the top is where I notice the most stretch. I do that double harvest as well usually and take about 2 1/2 weeks to fully chop my plant down. Never really works out that well. Pretty much just end up with fully mature larf. I personally need to remove more material with my lollipopping. I always think I've removed enough then end up with way more larf then I wanted in the end. I'm going to try to take it further this time to reduce my larf. I'm getting more weight in trim and larf then good buds on average. It takes practice to figure out how to shape the plant indoors to focus the productive areas in the best light with the right thickness of canopy. I've also never seen stretch like that with LED. You can almost tell those are HPS plants by looking at them. If you want to continue with SOG you might really enjoy getting an LED in there. They can really limit stretch dramatically. My last few monster plants finish about the same height as I put them in the flower area at. They start to stretch but then the weight of the buds sags them back down to about the same height as flip.
Duh. I was thinking lollipop. Ha. I def should’ve. Think it’s too late? I try not to do anything after day 20. I do move the larger fan leaves each day to get bud sites more light. Yes that 2nd and 3rd node from the top just wouldn’t quit. It was like they were talking shit to each other on who can reach the top. And light. Yes. Go by the pots pic. I didn’t notice til I just looked at the pic again of what y’all were talking about. It goes through rather well. As far as double harvest doing it on 1 big plant hasn’t worked well for me in the past. The more plants the better is what I’ve noticed. Since these are technically small but a good root system I think there will be plenty of power to really boost em. Lol. Yea def hps and I had to veg with hps as my my blew. Also part of stretch causing. Like I’ve said. I’m just having a fun project. My goal is 1/2 oz a plant. That’d be 10 oz. I feel that’s a very fair goal for what I’m doing.
Your goal is obtainable but unfortunerly everything below the top buds will probably be very fluffy. They still have alot of growing to do which is only going to crowd it further and block out more light. That's a ton of plants that size for such a small light
I am in the process of doing a SOG but with 20 clones instead of seed, i will top them twice and throw them into flower, im hoping its going to be pretty epic, i tried 4 plants topped twice and thrown into flower and gave me a perfect highth on each plant and perfrct amount of colas, so i think im going to have a beautiful field of buds in my 4x4, im hoping to get a lb out of it First time cloning ( 20 clones ) First time cloning ( 20 clones ) Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
This was just 4 plants topped twice and thrown into flower, all in 1 gal pots, take what you see there and times it by 5, thats what my outcome is going to be
The one in the back was only topped once, thats why its so stretched out, that was a fifth plant Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
That's not going to help with fluffy buds. It will help finish off the lower buds but by that point they've pretty much already done their growing. A few days isnt going to make up for weeks/months of light deprivation
I understand all the ways to make things better and how I could’ve done this or that but I just wanted to share what I was having fun with. You’re treating me like a newb. To me I’m having a fun experiment. No worries. Consider this grow closed.
you can only do one budding with clones you end up with problems all over with seeds also some strains like sativas will only make spears and the internodes are way to big for it..you end up with a small yield with them. one budding is for more indica looking/growing plants. dont confuse one budding with sog. one budding is just a method to create one cola sog just means growing lots of small plants. sativas are better given more tops by training them at the start or topping.. letting them grow 2 - 4 arms is good and then flipping early still as they stretch big time. indicas need more veg to get the height you want and with the added veg time on the sativas from training.. they end up getting flipped at the same time after 2 weeks ish Sent from my Redmi 4X using Tapatalk
This is comedy. Again don’t remember asking anything so y all this shit. Don’t confuse SOG with one budding? Lmao. Now that is fuckin funny. You have no clue. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Relax bud. Just making a suggestion to add light and space for flower. No reason to get upset. I dont know if you're a newbie or not, just merely making a suggestion based on your pics and it's pretty obvious you're over crowded. Just trying to lend some advice. Don't be so defensive for no reason
If you master supercropping you'll never have an uneven canopy again. Mine look like they get a flat top.
