400 HPS/Number of plants

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Carioca Roots, Jul 29, 2006.

  1. Hello to all,

I'm novice here and first of all I would like to say you have here a good discussion board. But I'm not just newbie here, as I never planted anything, but I would like to try it, because of the clear advantages, as you all know.

Well, I have a little space in my home, approximately 3'x 3' x 6', and it will be my bloom chamber. Reading around internet I decided to buy a 400w HPS to be used to bloom 4 plants at once, that I think it's a good average. (I think the lamp has +- 50000 lumens)

However, I would like to know, by your experience, if it's possible, in terms of development of the plants, and increasing around 60w in fluorescent lamps, horizontally in the walls of the closet, to put in this space the total of 6 plants, looking for a greater yield. Do I have enough space for that ? (without causing damages in development terms, because not enough light).

I probably will use pots of 2 gallons (more or less 8 liters, with 8'' wide), with coconut fiber for cultivation, and I'm thinking to put the plants in the bloom chamber when they reach 12'' tall.

One more thing: I also would like to know if it's a good idea to put some soft drink bottles full with freeze water to control the high temps (I'll use duct fans too). Here where I live is too hot, all the year.

Thanks for your patience and help, and excuse my english.

  2. I think you can get six plants in that space and I know the 400 watt HPS will do six plants in 2 gallon pots. As for the frozen water, I don't think that will lower the temps all that much. Your best bet for that is a good exhaust fan and blowing fans.

  3. Thank You Brother. This is will be my first experience, and let see what happen. By the way, for sure I'll use exhaust and blowing fans. In my country there's no way to escape from them.... :)) .... almost 86F (30C) all over the year..in summer, some days, temps reaches 105F. For exemple, we're in winter, it's raining, 1 AM, ...and we have 73.5F... I hope fans really helps.

For indoor marijuana growing it seems to be a challenge... but let´s try.

  4. My pleasure.
Those are hot temps. You will need at least a 256 CFM fan I would think. Air conditioning is also key. Good luck and keep us posted.
