Well its finally here, the day I get a place suitable for a small grow. I need your input and suggestions for what i should do with this space. The closet is 4 ft wide, 4 1/2 ft deep and 6'2 tall Supplies i have so far: 2' mylar digital thermometer/humidity gauge ph kit 7 day timer Seeds: White widow from nirvana I need some input on what lighting system i should put in this closet. I was thinking a 600 watt, but that is still up in the air. I would ideally like to have between 3-6 large plants in there come harvest time. The other question I had was which route to go on my first grow, soil or hydro? I like the bubble bucket setups like rumpleforeskin's here : http://forum.grasscity.com/general-indoor-growing/121335-lets-build-bubble-bucket-step-step.html i could build 3 or so of those and go that route or i could just use 5 gal. buckets and foxfarm soil and other fertilizers. Here are some pics of the closets, and any ideas/input is greatly appreciated. This is my first time and once i have all the supplies i will get a journal going and keep you all updated. if you feel like you can take the time to check them mutliple times a week, and want to use the most out of your grow space. go Hydro & 2x400W HPS (or HPS/MH combo) check out the grow room in my link for an idea of what you need to get. I'd say i spent around 1,500 dollars setting mine up. you dont have to go as far into it as I did, but I'm working with a similar space so you might get a few ideas
Thanks man, yea i have been watching your journal a bit and i like what i'm seein', you have all the right stuff and hopefully all goes well. I forgot to mention for the rest of my supplies i have about a 600 budget.
Those bucks will set you up nicely, but before you go buying lights and all, how are you going to keep it cool, can you cut holes in the ceiling or what? Its one thing if you own but I'm wondering cause it sounds like maybe you rent and that can put a serious crimp in your choices. So give us the low-down on what modifications you can make to the closet. Also, from what I've read WW is a fairly large plant, so you need to decide how you are going to suppress her vertical growth.
modifications won't be too much of a problem in terms of damages done to the rental. the problem is that the closet in question seems to have been built as an addition and although there is space above the ceiling I have yet to cut into it and find out how viable running my exhaust through there would be. The most realistic option is on the left side wall. There is about 12 inches of wall space that run out back into the room and can be cut through to make an exhaust at the top and an intake at the bottom. I figure i will make two 6in circular holes and attach my fans/ducting. All these cutting into walls will make a mess in the beginning but I have to paint the room when i move out anyways and a wall patching kit isn't too hard to do. As for your last question I do realize the widow strain is on the taller side but i plan to utilize LST and also cut their time in veg state shorter. I have read a lot and still have a lot more to learn but I know i will make mistakes and thats why i hope i can learn from them and utilize all the advice everyone here at the city has to offer. Here is a representation of how i will vent my closet. I might run the exhaust right out of the window, or run it up and through the adjacent bathroom ventilation fan that goes out to the roof.
