36 plant in bedroom neighbors either side, carbon filter?

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by ihatecuntboy, Jun 4, 2009.

  1. Im wondering if I lived in a mid terrace house or an apartment with neighbors all around above and below, and i were growing 35 plants approx producing about 150oz or so.

What i want to know is will a carbon filter guarentee that the smell will not travel through the walls to next door or the flat above? odvisly providing the cf was set up correctly.

Ive done plenty of grows in attic space but only ever in areas not connecting with neighbors. i heard about a guy in london doing it in a block of flats and he was producing a nice amount. any advice or experience in this i would be grateful.

Im just a bit worried about having next door neighbors.

would a 12" carbon filter/extractor fan be enough for this size grow.

  2. In my opinion...growing with the neighbors there is just stupid to begin with. Sorry for the harsh reply, just being honest.

  3. well, 7 plants with 2 5 gallon bucket carbon filters, you could smell my house nearly a block away.

  4. With 4 plants you would stink the place up. 36 is a bat signal message to come raid your apt.

  5. u got shitty carbon filters then

  6. ???

You either DIY'd really badly, bought really cheap filters or they need the carbon replacing - not trying to sound like a dick but I couldnt live without my filters and they work perfectly - and that's with a lot more than 7 plants

to the OP - if you want to grow 35 plants then you need to invest heavily in filtration - I would go for 2 X 1000m3/hr jobbies each with it's own 200mm HVK - ain't gonna be cheap but 1 plants worth of harvest should cover the cost

if you don't go with carbon then forget it all together - your place will literally stink

  7. I would say no more than 3 plants in an apartment..and that is only if you have a small space for them.

But a bedroom? that is a wild idea for an apartment. You might want to think it through

  8. I had 5 NYCD plants in a closet and you could not smell them outside of the room...

And that was just using a $39 ion air cleaner...

  9. thanks smokeandmirrors

ive been reading if you set up a couple of CF's right. the air pressure will be right, so as you open the door to your room air goes in the room rather than out of it so the smell dont get out.

Im thinking as long as the air is super vented and circulated a potential next door neighbor will not be alerted.

if anyone else has experience with keeping the smell from the neighbor id be interested.

  10. that air pressure thing sounds like tosh

the laws of physics state that if you have two rooms of different air pressure and you create a break between the two rooms then the pressure in both room will equalise

I would not count on pressurising rooms - I would rely on massive vent fans and huge amounts of carbon

if you vent fans are strong enough then when you open the door to your grow some smell has to escape but your fans will prevent most from escaping

I hope that makes some sense

  11. this may sounds silly but look for any vents on your wall where the smell could escape and leak out, i watched some news article the other day about how people growing huge amounts of weed were caught because of the smell eminating through a small vent to the neighbours house. take every precaution, do everything necessary to hide that smell!

  12. Actually, the method of negative air pressure is widely used for containment from gas masks, all the way to infectious disease laboratories. I understand where you're coming from, but he's talking about continuous airflow, not just pressure.

OP, If you have access to a window concealed from curious outside bystanders, you can attach a shaded pole blower or the like to a couple large carbon filters and have the output attached to the window, you should be fine.
