3000K only grow?

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by boingk, Nov 10, 2006.

  1. Hey - does it matter a stack if I can only get 3000'K lights for my grow? I realise these are for flowering, but thats all I can get my hands on with the cash I have...in the form of 2 x 48w CFL. I also realise that my plant wont reach its full potential, but I only want to grow a small one for personal use.

Any theories, experiencese, opinions would be highly valued.

    Cheers - boingk

  2. Don´t spoil the ship for a ha´porth of tar. Old British saying.

  3. It will work, but not as well. I started with 3000k bulbs because that's all I had, and then when I switched to 6400k and my plants grew like a inch over night and got a lot more bushy. At $3 a bulb, it's definitely worth the money, but keep those 3000k for the flowering cycle and they'll work great for that.

  4. Spanishfly: nice saying, I've heard it before. Unfortunately I really did mean it about the tight cash scenario. I want small plants anyway, and I think I'll only be growing one or two for personal use, so I'm not too fussed.

dexorated: $3 a bulb? What sort of wattage is that? I payed US$18 each for 2 x 48w CFL's...but can't seem to find them in anything other than 3000K. If I can find anything cheap and in the 6000~6500 range, I'll take them. Until then, I'll be sailing under 3000. Thanks for the advice though.

  5. Who ripped you off so bad? 42w 2700k CFL's at wal mart are like 5 bucks. They have 6500k 30w too, labeled daylight. Try to get more, or else I hope you don't want more than 1 plant.

  6. KamelRedLight: Yeah, lighting is expensive here I guess - I couldn't find anything cheaper with the same wattage. I suppose its the difference between countries with similar living standards, but way different populations and industry bases. 20 watt globes are around US$5, but I don't want to have 5+ fittings...just the two. Yeah, only one plant - 6000 lumens should do it well, especially with a grow chamber lined with aluminum foil.

  7. Just be careful cuz if those are anything like my 42w, they'll get hot, especially in a space lined with aluminum foil. I didn't even bother to notice that you didn't live in the US, I guess wal mart is a luxury.

  8. I got a 2 pack of 40w(each) 48" 6400k bulbs at home depot for like $6.50

  9. sounds like there is a business opportuity for shipping cheap lighting from america overseas

  10. they are phillips brand too which are the best.

  11. Good one fly. Dude I hope you only smoke like once a week. You'll be damn lucky if you get a quarter oz out of it. Infact I'll bet without more light you fail to bring a crop in(and I'm not talking about leaves).

  12. 3000k will work but no where as good as 6400k.

Same goes for HPS, i see people on here grow the entire plant from beginning under HPS and i dont know how they dont go crazy.... Its slow as hell compared to MH

  13. Check out Home Depot. They are having a sale on the CREE TW Series 3000 K 850 lumens and 1500 lumen LED lights for $5.02. Regular price is $19.97. Both Home Depot’s I’ve been to in the last couple of days are having the same sale on the same bulbs. So I’m sure it’s at every Home Depot right now.

  14. You're replying to a post from 2006. How does this even happen?
