30 days into flowering...Lots of problems [Pics]

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by tuffluck, Sep 8, 2004.

  1. 1st problem:

the very tips of the leaves are curling on 2 of my plants. Its not very much but it is very apparant (See images 1,2,3).

    2nd problem:

most of the fan leaves are turning yellow and falling off..this is bad isn't it? Or is it normal for them to fall off during the flowering phase like this? They fall off quite often, I have collected cups full of them, and they just keep growing and falling off again. Is this a normal part of clipping and manacuring?

    - See image f5 of all my plants and yellow leaves.

    3rd problem:

One plant just grew and grew and grew, and started getting far to close to the hps ~1 inch... The buds and leaves dried up, and I had to trim it back pretty far...I just cliped the stem down as far as there was dead weed material. You can see it in image f6. You think it will be ok and that I did the right thing? The hps is as high up as it can go :( I had no other choice.

    - see image f6

    -----------
    Setup

They are on 12/12 is a closet that is pretty much completely dark in the dark cycle.

I water about every 3 days, any longer and the leaves start to wilt...they have gotten extremely thirsty in the flowering phase. i uused to only have to water every 7 or so days.

i fertilize every 2 weeks with bloomburst 12-52-10 at 1/4 the recommened dosage in a gallong of water.

I have a small fan blowing air into the closet, and then a huge air circulator blowing out of the closet, I think the circulation is excellent.

They are under a 250 hps light. I also have 3 160 watt spiral flouros in there, for an additional ~5000 lumens, and I have them underneat the plants were the hps doesn't reach so well.

I must admit that some of the buds do look very nice, so for you viewing pleasure I have attached some nice photos of the good buds :)

Any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks

  3. here you go buddy... youre gonna send me a bud now right? ;)

Yellowing - Lower/Middle Leaves - Yellowing of the lower leaves/older growth is a sign of a possible Nitrogen (N) deficiency. Nitrogen is a transferable element (this means the plant can move it around as needed). If a plant is not receiving enough Nitrogen from the roots then it will rob Nitrogen from the older growth. Plants that are Nitrogen deficient will exhibit a lack of vigor and grow slowly resulting in a weak and stunted plant that is significantly reduced in quality and yield. In a Hydroponic system, usually the pH is too high and has locked out the available Nitrogen. In soil a yellowing of the lower leaves could also be an indication of a root bound plant (see Root Bound below).
Solution - First, check the pH, and adjust if necessary. The correct pH for marijuana is 6.3 - 6.8 in soil and 5.5 - 6.1 in a hydroponic system. Second, make sure you are giving the correct amount/type of fertilizer/nutrients. For the vegetative stage of growth marijuana needs a fertilizer/nutrient with a high Nitrogen (N) content like 2-1-1 (or 20-10-10).

Leaf Curling Up - Leaf curling up can be a sign of a Magnesium (Mg) deficiency caused by too low of a pH level. Magnesium deficiency will show as a yellowing (which may turn brown and crispy) and interveinal (in between the veins) yellowing beginning in the older leaves. Interveinal chlorosis (yellowing) will start at the leaf tip and progressing inward between the veins. It could also be a sign of excess heat and humidity in the grow room.
Solution - Check and adjust the pH level as necessary. When the pH is not at the proper level marijuana will lose its ability to absorb some of the essential elements required for healthy growth. If you're growing in soil Magnesium will begin to be locked out at a pH of 6.5 and lower, in hydro it starts at 5.8 and below. If the pH is correct, then add 1 teaspoon of Epsom salts per each gallon to your water. Or, to foliar feed them, add a ½ teaspoon per quart to a spray bottle. **Note- If your tap water is over 200 ppm Magnesium will be locked out due to the calcium in the water. Magnesium can get locked out by too much Calcium (Ca), Chlorine (Cl) or Ammonium Nitrogen (NH4+). If this is your problem we suggest using bottled or RO (reverse osmosis) water.

  4. Nice camera, sweet pics you got there. Everything is developing nicely looks like and in flowering, I have read that the plant uses lots o' Nitrogen and will eventually suck the life out of all the fan leaves (see link below figure 10).

    http://www.overgrow.com/growfaq/1111

What are you ferting with, how often, what is your tap water ph, do you adjsut it and what is your soil pH? lol Lots o' questions but it will help to know.

  5. I don't do anything to my water...and i don't know the ph...It just doesn't kill em.

im ferting with like a 12-52-10 or close to that "bloom burst" walmart mix.

I mix about 1/2 a teaspoon in a gallon of water, and fertizle all 3 plants from that gallon once every two weeks. They don't seem to react to much.

Maybe they are root bound. They are like a gallon and a half container, and 2 are only about a foot and a half...well maybe 2.

  6. Too high or low soil/water pH can create nutrient lockup and keep the plant from absorbing nutrients (ferts). If you haven't used some sort of lime in your soil mix chances are pH will drop. It's good to flush them out with pH 7.0 (neutral) water. The ferts and schedule you have are fine, I would try and flush them before anything else, check your pH.

  7. Well I had a feeling they were rootbound, and when I went to transplant them they pretty much just came right up, soil and all. Pretty much the entire pot had become a root ball.

So I have then in a container about twice as large...(~3 gallons ?)

But I guess I will buy some ...distilled water? something with a neutral ph and feed them that?

  8. you should have flushed them first, them waited a few days, then transplanted............when flused the water that comes out the bottom will be yeallow, like urine...........i think you have a rootbound plant that has ph lockup, and that's why it's showing signs of N and MG deff............your adding the ferts but the plants refusing them, due to the roots being at a bad ph level...........you'll need to flush all the salts that have buit up...........even though it's in a new home, it will still need flushed............if you lose too many of those leaves, ie the plants solar panels, then the yield will be greatly effected..................sorry if i sound like i'm preaching, but you need to do it soon, as you've not got a lot of time for the plant to fully recover, if it's allready been flowering for 4 weeks...............as for HPS.....how far from the tops of the plants is it?.............Peace out..........Sid

ps..........the closet needs to be completely dark.........no light leaks at all..........sometimes they can take a small dull source, like the moon, but that's outside.......try for darkness.........

  9. the closet is pretty much pitch black at night and the lights turn on at 6, and go off at 6 so pretty much they get zero light during the night cycle unless i absolutely have to go into the closet.

I will try and flush them still. The transplant seems to have worked somewhat, I see new new growth, and nothing new is turning yellow, and I see some of the old yellow going green again
