This lady hs some leaves that seem to be cupping. This is my first time to grow and I am worried about her. I use soil medium, shes 32 in tall., 3 gallon pot, ff nutes and schedule, water 2x wk., ph 6.5, 450 hds, 75 degrees constant and about 35% humidity, hard to get more as live in desert. PLZ HELP!!

  2. Howdy! Great looking plant! The cupping may be a sign of higg N, especially if they are clawing under a bit at the tips and have a dark green tint to them.

Are you using the FF nutes at full strength? If so I would ease off just a bit, FF burns super easy, especially Tiger Bloom. Also have you flushed at all?

  3. [IMG]Thank you so much AskEd for answering my thread. Made a bit of mistake in original post...using fox farm soil, but nutes are Age Old line plus using HELP as on nute/growth chart. Wasnt sure what was happening so no I havent flushed but will now!! Yes, now that I know what it means, they are clawing a little.
How much water should I use to flush?? I have heard some say one thing and others another so am very confused....just been playing it by ear with this first grow.
    Thank again, Kat

  4. Well the rule of thumb is 3 gallons of water per 1 gallon of medium. If you are in 3 gal containers then you probably have about 2 gals of soil, so a full flush would be around 6 gals. You may not need that much, depending on how much you you have been feeding and how often, how much perlite you have in the mix, etc. When the soil feeds on the nutes there is salt left over, and those salts can wreck havoc with ph (it lowers it) so we just want to flush those salts out. I'd say at least 2 gals of water would be good, but no more than 6. You'll get tired after one gallon trust me LOL

For soil, the best way to gauge if your ph is right is to catch a little runoff and test that. You want it 6.5-7.0, anything lower than 6.5 can cause some problems and also indicate salt build up.

Takes about a week before you notice any real difference, be sure you feed next round after the flush. You are doing a hell of a job for a first grow, much much much better than my first! Good luck!

  5. :D Thank you sooo much Ed. :smoke: She is looking great. Thanks for the compliment on my first grow, been long road. When I got off of morphine and oxycodone my son suggested MMJ. So, I got my cert, and then my sons actually came down from Colorado to help put together my rooms. Used the back 2/3 of large shed, divided it, provided a/c in each, fans. Using 450 light system. Each area is 6' x 4'. Then have place for clones in front rm... all insulated, steel beams, dry wall...
My knowledge has grown immensely, but I think I drove my sons crazy as I was getting advice from them and talking to them for bout an hour dly for 2 months...so credit goes to them too.
I have lost 3 plants, due to heat and bad advice on different site, and lost numerous clones!!
bUT NOW i HAVE TWO BEAUTIFUL LADIES!. And 2 clones from each. The one u gave advice for is sour diesel, then I have another which I mistakenly put pic up of. It is real small but flowering. It is very dense and bushy. Also in 3rd wk. Its Red Diesel Hindu Kush. So have one sativa and one indica....
I think that anyone who is newbie should have that trial and error so that they can get the best experience. My only thing I regret is that I didn't keep good journal. Will with these clones though which are 3 wks old. How old before I put them into veg??

  6. hey what is your quote from... it is soo familiar, but so elusive

  7. Wow! Talk about getting off the tough ones, way to go! I know too well the pull of them  Well thumbs up to your sons for the suggestion and help. Hopefully you feel it was a good move :smoke:

In addition to the medicinal value, just the hobby of growing itself is a very good thing for the heart and soul, especially if you make that (spiritual?) connection with the plant. It's very grounding to me and keeps my 'naughty hands busy' as Groundskeeper Willie says LOL

Anyhow - on your clones question... I put mine into veg when they root and/or start new growth. Mine usually take about 14-17 days from cut to root, a little faster when using an aerocloner but not much.

Sounds like you have done a lot of work and are trying to make this work, please let me know if I can help any

  8. Ah, it's from an old John Denver song "Summer". Great song about growing or life in general, depending on how you look at it LOL

Silently the morning mist is lying on the water
Captive moonlight waiting for the dawn
Softly like a baby’s breath a breeze begins to whisper
The sun is coming, quick you must be gone
Smiling like a superstar the morning comes in singing
The promise of another sunny day
And all the flowers open up to gather in the sunshine
I do believe that summer’s here to stay

Do you care what's happening around you
Do your senses know the changes when they come
Can you see yourselves reflected in the season
Can you understand the need to carry on

Riding on the tapestry of all there is to see
So many ways and oh so many things
    Rejoicing in the differences
There's no one just like me
Yet as different as we are , we're still the same

And oh I love the life within me
I feel part of everything I see
And oh I love the life around me
A part of everything is here in me

Found song on You Tube....haven't heard this in years...

Well, yes I have "spiritually" connected with my plants. Sour Diesels name is "Sally D" and red diesel hindu kush is "Red". Both were from seeds given me.

Can't figure out why Red is so small...she is only 18" tall but she is dense bushy and loaded with buds.

Sally is 3 ft tall and almost 3 ft wide. She has 150+ buds...:)) lost count. Wondering what kind of yield these ladies will get.

As to clones I have now, they started in rock wool in humidity dome with the heating pad that came with and they are under a 60 lumens flourescent on shelf with light bolted to shelf above. They are up to 6 hrs a day on room air. Just last week I put them in some soil in some of those little 6 pack planters that you get with seedlings. Hope I did it right, I just put them in rockwool and all. How can I tell if they have enough roots...seem to be getting new growth.Someone said you can use "Used coffee grounds in the soil." Have u heard of that??

So 4 clones will be ready for veg soon and here in AZ as I live further than 60 miles to nearest dispensary, I am allowed to grow 12 plants. I dont see how I could keep up with that many. If my new ladies do well, then will have 4 little ladies, and genetics on the way to include Kong, Sunshine Dreams, and 7 others that I am getting from sons.
Now on the ones in bloom side, I dk even how to tell when they are ready to harvest. Sally had flowers starting within 18 hours, Red took a couple weeks to really start to flower well. SO looking forward to not have to buy from dispensaries, medicating, and having the satisfaction of knowing that I grew these myself!!!!
Thanks again Ed for helping this damsel in distress!!

  10. Uh okay so I cant medicate and type.... I meant to say in first message that I looked up that song on Youtube....wow, havent heard that in YEARS... and Willie is my idol!! LOL

  11. Nice, love the names! I name mine after porn stars haha I get the same feelings when looking at either one so makes sense to me :p Sour Diesel is one of my all time favs... still trying to get my hands on some but I have plenty of others to keep me busy LOL

One easy way to check for roots is to gently pull on the stem, you can feel how rooted they are by the resistance. I normally do this on day 14 from cut if I'm not seeing new growth yet.

Once you get your groove on 12 plants will be nothing to manage :) I try to aim for 2-4 oz per plant and that seems to be right on target for mine, I grow 3-4 footers.

How long ago did you put your plants in 12/12?

  12. It's a great song, the version on the live album "An Evening with John Denver" is the best IMO, hard to find but always takes me waaay back haha. And I'm a big Gillian Anderson fan LOL

  13. they have been in 12/12 for 3 wks. Sally D is doing much better thank you so much, and thank your beautiful wife for understanding my rambling and you talking to another lady!! Red is a little slower, Sally D was blooming within days, Red took a couple weeks.
John Denver, Cream, Easy Living by Uriah Heep, Humble Pie, as a kid I spent several years in a little town in Colorado up above Denver, just 5 miles from Evergreen (hippy central) and these songs takes me back too.... sigh....
Just got my seeds in...Whoo-hoo, I have one Kong, 2 Sunshine Dream, 2 Manitou OG, and 2 Blue Dream. Don't know anything about these strains, do you?? Also the grow chart that I have for nutes says that seedling stage is 4 weeks?? Not to starts nutes til veg, and then 4 weeks veg. Does this sound right to you??
Also, noticed when I brought Sally D into flush, a couple roots coming out drainage holes. What should I do?? Does that mean she is root bound?
Talk to you later Ed...God Bless you and your wife.

  14. Awe too kind! :) Yeah that's my kind of music there, and you will definitely get along with my hippie wife LOL

Sounds like you have some nice variety there. I don't know much about any but I know the Blue Dream is supposed to have a lot of indica so it's easy to grow and medicinal, but with a sativa high which is not so much day-ending LOL

On the nutes & feeding... with good quality fresh soil it should have enough nutrients to sustain a young vegging plant for usually around 4 weeks (varies with soil, brand, strain, etc.). After the plant uses up the soil's nutrients is when you have to start feeding with nutes. You're actually feeding the soil, and the soil feeds the plant. The plant does not really feed until the veg period starts.

Normally for seeds in normal conditions.... when you put it in soil it takes around 5-7 days to sprout and break ground - this is now the seedling stage. It's a seedling until it gets it's 3rd pair of leafsets, usually around 14 days from breaking ground.

When the 3rd set opens up then its in veg phase. This is when the plant starts taking up nutrients and the soil should supply around 4 weeks worth. If you're keeping track this about 6 weeks after the plant has broken ground. Some people wait until the plant turns pale as a sign she's hungry, and some start feeding around now to make sure she doesn't get hungry in the first place. Your choice :)

But yeah about 4 weeks after seeding stage sounds right to me haha And roots coming out of the bottom of the container is a beautiful thing - doesn't mean rootbound at all, just that you have roots down in the bottom where they should be :) I never touch them, they will take care of themselves ;)

Sounds like you are on the road to recovery! So glad Sally is pulling through! Come by the Grove sometime, you should meet Buzz - she's a hell of a grower out in Colorado, sweetheart too :)

  15. thanks you Ed I will see u at the Grove
