  1. So I have been reading everything I possibly can about growing marijuana and spent wayy too much time on soil.

In the end, I think we all would agree for a soil grow, creating your own perfect mixture would be ideal.

But if we wanted to make life simple and just buy one bag ready to use, which would it be?!? This is obvious different across the country but I'm going to test the three biggest ones I've seen spoken about.

I have decided to test 3 soils, with 3 strains, in 1 gallon cloth pots. I know 1gallon is not ideal but I did not want to spend more money on soil for this experiment. I believe I will still get the results I am looking for.

    Soils:
    • Fox Farm Happy Frog
    [IMG]
    • Fox Farm Ocean Forest
    [IMG]
    • Miracle Grow Moisture Control
    [IMG]

For this test I will only be using tap water:

I germinated these in Jiffy Pellets, they popped in about 3 days. 4 for some. I am also going to be testing ONE of these 1g bags where I removed the jiffy cloth cover. I am curious to see how the roots look in that pot versus the other Ocean Forest.

I will be growing these strains:
    1. SFV OG
    2. Purple Buffalo
    3. Icy OG (The 3 Icy OG seeds were germinated using the towel method, and I just put them in a Pellet today. I had the thought to test 3 strains instead of 2 after the fact. That is why Icy OG is going to be just a couple days behind. But for all sake and purposes I think we will still get a good ideal off this strain as well.)

    Some Pics:

Well, I'm really excited to see where this goes nd what happens. Pardon the 3 empty bags for now!

some close ups of the morning after pellets made their way to soil. First three are purple buf last three sfv

maybe I’ll get lucky and icy og will pop today and we can get them in soil tomorrow or next day! WOAH! two of the beans did pop overnight! They were in the paper towel for 48hr more than my two auto flowers.

These guys all had about a 3/4inch tail. One of them was growing into the towel and despite my best effort half of the tail broke off. If I had to guess the last one about to pop is the one who’s tail was cut off. I was not expecting them to be popped today to be honest. This is the first time I did water soak 16hr, then paper towel, then jiffy. Before I just went straight into jiffy.

If I had to guess I think the soak, to towel, to jiffy has saved me one day. Or ICY OG just has different characteristic than the other two.

    Exciting exciting

EDIT: just to mention you can indeed see the final bean has popped. Picture doesn’t clear show it. It’ll be up by end of day :)

Looks like this is turning into a tap root experiment now. Looks stunted

    Other seeds growing up nicely

Growing up nicely. Bug nibble on couple spots but that will stop and not be a problem.

    PURPLE
    ICY
    SFV

    MIRACLE GRO
    FFHF
    FFOF

LAST PIC IS SFV - but with no cloth around the pellet, in FFOH.

ps. Keeping this soil journal separate from the one I just created for all my other plants.

Very little. Probably still too early to tell but it looks like the happy frog is stretching the most for every strain and developing leaf structure the quickest.

ocean forest seems pretty much the same as happy frog. Going to need more time here. Purple buffalo likes happy frog more where sfv likes ocean forest more right now. I will note I think it’s very interesting to see how the SFV without cloth is developing skinner leafs.

the miracle grow appear to be stunted a little and growing much slower.

order of pic is miracle, FFHF, ffof
Last pic is of ffoh pellet cloth comparison

  10. Get the top two and mix 50/50. Then for added aeration throw in extra perlite

  11. agreed. however,

The test is go to test the base soil product with no additions.

All three of these soils should have perlite added most especially miracle grow.

Would agree mixing both fox farm products would be ideal. If we wanted to get elaborate a top layer of their light warrior would be ideal for the seedlings roots and nutrient needs.
