I seriously doubt any of that was coming to PA. Our marijuana prices are low(At least Pittsburgh) compared to the rest of the country. Whereas New York City has prices of about 200-300 per ounce of mid grade.(From what I understand those are NY's prices, Pgh is pulling 80-120/oz. at street level.) Why would they sell it in middle state PA when they can turn onto I-84 and drop it in NYC. Or they could have dropped it off in Philadelphia. I seriously doubt they were stopping and dropping pounds along the way to individual distributers. So in my opinion middle state PA won't even get a drougt, let alone my area. MAYBE Philly. But I think that was going to NYC, 2x-3x the profit margin. Edit: Plus the truck was coming from the West. The only things West of Harrisburg area is.... DUM DUM DUM; NYC and Philly. Edit: They should have just weighed in with a legitimate shipment in the back. But since they were carrying a relativly light load, they might have gotten their seal broken instead of the usual logs check.
That's a lot of weight. If that's headies that's really going to suck for some people, hell, most of a state.
That much pot lost, it's going to suck for more than just the state of PA. That's 3-4 TONS of marijuana that is not circulating through the country. That pot wasn't going to be sold in just Pennsylvania alone, my friend.
Once again I think people don't realize the risk of driving across the country in a tractor trailer, with 3-4 tons of marijuana, and casualy dropping off hundreds of pounds as you go across the country. You would have to know, exits, roads, and bridges that would handle the weight/height of a tractor trailer. Not to mention taking all those side routes to go sell a couple hundred pounds here and there would involve passing more weigh stations, and these guys clearly aren't profesional truck drivers, nor smugglers. I guarentee only one area will get a drought, if that. I also guarentee that at this moment there at least 20x that amount being transported across our nations highways. These guys only got caught because they are idiots. Even a regular truck driver knows that passing up a weigh station is the stupidest thing ever. If you go in the weigh station, park correctly on the weigh pad, and have accurate logs you will probably never get a seal broken(The lock broken, and the back of the truck opened.) Edit/summary: Basicly this is the worst smuggling operation I have ever seen. I have truck trivers throughout my family, they wouldn't pass up a weigh in and they have legitamate jobs. It's a pain in the ass, they search everything(If they weighed in and got seached it would involved someone opening the back, looking in, and closing it.) But since they passed it up the states immediatly pulled it over and probably got the dogs or started tearing it apart. Basicly my point is... marijuana has been getting to us for many many years. Do you think that is all the marijuana on the East Coast? Do you really think the masterminds behind the global marijuana trade are risking all of their profit in two guys who aren't even cut out for legitimate truck driving? I think marijuana will continue to flow because the real distrubuters probably aren't going to hire drivers that get scared and blow by weigh stations. Going past a weigh station never works, EVER.
Oh please, quit acting like they were targeting marijuana. This isn't a case of a private medical grow getting busted, or some other injustice. This is a case of not weighing in. If you don't weigh in, you get chased down. Now naturally after they chase you down they want to know why. Now once they open up up the back they find styrofoam in the back(which weighs nothing) but magicly the shocks have a decent amount of pressure on them. So of course they go dig in the back because it's a law to have decently evenly distributed weight on the tires. So in the back instead of heavy generators or something else, they find marijuana. What are they supposed to do, just let them drive away with 3-4 tons? Get real everyone, quit acting like the PA state police were targeting the marijuana trade. It's an in-justice to every legit truck driver who has to put up with the police bullshit, when these guys violated probably four or five trucking laws. They were begging to get searched.
