250 MH Vs. T5

  1. i have a quick question for you guys and gals. I need a new light and for what I need it for, I'm looking at two different options. The first option would be a Sunburst 250 MH. The Sunburst gives off around 20,000 Lumens. The second option would be a T5 designer series (4', 4 bulbs) which also gives off 20,000 Lumens. The question is, which one should I choose. The Sunburst is a little more expensive, but I'm really just concerned about overall performance. Any input would be much appreciated. Thank you.

  2. Well you will get more penetration with the 250 MH but you will get more of an even spread of light with the T5's .. I don't think you will have heat issues with either. What is the wattage of the T5's?

  3. T5 for clones MH throw it away and replace it with a HPS. HPS will always be better for veg then a MH.

  4. Not quite. MH is far better for veg than Hps. Hps will promote heavy stretching in the veg stages . And the MH is widely used by many grOwers in the veg stages for the light spectrum it contains. I think you mAy have gotten it a little mixed up.:smoke:

  5. NO i don't have it mixed up. i have done MH and HPS and hands down HPS works better. LED is the far best for Veg but not flower.

  6. always choose hid over "any" other type of lighting. the powers that be are working on other options, but for the time being, hid is far superior to all others. as for the t-5/mh/hps, i'd choose the hps for flower. some folks use mh for an entire grow. you can get good results from the mh, but if you can afford it go for the hps in flower...

  7. you will deffinitly reduce stretch with a t5 being as you can put it withing inches of the plant

  8. this is untrue. it is a widely known fact that metal halide lights provide a better light spectrum for vegetative plants than an hps will. Along with reading this in a lot of literature written by experts i also have experience using both and the mh definitely promotes healthier branch growth.

however, if you have a veg room or are using it for clones, go with the t5. it is far more efficient than the mh because it doesnt release as much heat. the t5 will save you money on your electricity bills.
