Glass House Brands, : The largest cannabis cultivator in California, with roughly 5.5 million square feet of greenhouse capacity in Southern California, including 841,000 square feet dedicated to flowering and 420,000 square feet to nursery operations. The publicly traded company anticipates its cost of production to fall below $110 per pound in the second half of 2023. Each year, cultivators are reporting lower production costs no matter whether they grow indoors, in a greenhouse or outdoors. Dramatic decreases were seen in greenhouse production. In response to the question, “What is your operation’s average production cost per pound of dried flower produced,” the number that fell in the middle of responses (the median) for greenhouse growers in 2018 was $300; that figure is now $233. Indoor and outdoor cultivators also are reducing production costs, with the median response to the same question dropping from $425 two years ago to $396 this year for indoor growers, and from $175 in 2018 to $100 this year for outdoor growers.
Way cheaper. That's the outdoor production costs and for me growing outdoors cost about as much as growing some tomato or squash plants. As it should be.
Fair enough that its not a conventional indoor facility. So you think a company that is run inside greenhouses with supplemental lighting and HVAC should be considered outdoors?
Outdoors, absolutely. Indoors its closer that $396. But keep in mind all of this is "production cost". That doesnt include setup and equipment.
No, that would be considered "greenhouse". More expensive that "outdoor", less expensive than "indoor". Youd be surprised how many veggies come from green houses. The extensive benefits of greenhouses help to cover the investment while still providing people with quality "sun grown" herbs.
A pound outdoors could be done but getting anywhere close to the number of pounds they are talking would take more room than my growpatch has.
