Hey, new to the forum. Found loads of threads on the iolite, all with mixed reviews. Did not, however, find any on the apparently "newer" 2010 model. Any thoughts on this? I am thinking of getting one, but still not sure. Is the magic flight launch box still better than this new 2010 model of the iolite? And how badly does the vapor smell? I am planning to use it in my house so I am concerned about my parents smelling it. Thanks!
I can't speak for which model is better. But in my experience vapor doesn't smell nearly as much as smoke does. Also, sweet name. Shocked no one got that name earlier. Lol.

Movie theaters, outdoor concerts, shopping malls, skiing, you name it. I just put it onto a 16oz coffee cup with a "dome" style lid and stick the mouthpiece through the part you would drink out of. Looks exactly like a straw. I keep a refill in here and attach it to the zipper of the case: Small Pill Fob. That holds two "bowls" worth. The Iolite holds enough butane for about 3 25 minute sessions.
yea im surpirsed the username wasnt taken yet either haha. and is the smell really unnoticable? that is my main concern. I have a vapor genie, and that mildly smells like burnt popcorn, not much like weed at all. any thoughts?
You're gonna smell weed. I tried the cup trick at the movies and the smell was so noticeable that I had to stop.
I was the most nervous at the movies. I noticed a weed-ish smell. I also went to a 2pm movie on a Wednesday and there was maybe 10 people in the theater tops. Nobody noticed or said anything to me as I sat there with a big ass tub of popcorn. I wouldn't do it all the time and not in a crowded theater, that's for sure. As always, be careful.
if i were to vape it in my room, would my parents be able to notice smell if they just walked by? ive found that some people say there is hardly a smell at all, and others say there is a big smell, not sure what the actual deal is.
Its gonna smell a little bit in your room but run your celing fan and spray some Febreeze "moroccan bazzar" and you will be fine. And it smells more to me like a mix of unburnt weed and popcorn to me, nothing like burnt weed unless your vape ends up combusting.
I have both the newest Iolite and the MFLB and I would say that the Iolite has slightly less of a smell then the MFLB. Additionally there is always the possibility that you can combust your material which will definitely have a smell. I love my Iolite because its so easy to vape on the go. I find it easier for this purpose because you don't have to worry about having batteries. The MFLB does have a slight advantage because it is completely silent while the Iolite does have a low hiss to it.
My wife doesn't smoke weed, so I try not to smoke around her. She says she doesn't like the smell of it. I vape in the basement. If she's not around, I'll vape right at my desk and light a few candles. There's a smell, but it's not a heavy acrid/smokey smell that you get with combustion. It dissipates quickly enough. If she is home, I'll vape in either the basement bathroom or where my workbench is. Both rooms have a window, and I'll open it partially to keep the smell down. In the bathroom I light a candle, close the door when I'm done vaping. Where my workbench is, I have an exhaust fan because I'm always melting wax for tuning my skis.
alright thanks! last question: i know that it lets the butane out of those little exaust slits on the side. does this make the unit smell like butane while it is inuse?
Can't speak for the Iolite, but personally, I've never been disappointed with my MFLB. It's just amazing, every damn time, and you can't beat the warranty (lifetime). I can say my MFLB smells at the worst like "burnt popcorn", but that's about it.
You might faintly smell butane after refilling the unit and turning it on but you shouldn't smell it for more than a few seconds and never while in use.
I vape in my room, its awesome!! =D just ensure that you ghost your vapour hits, no smell no fuss!! =)
Honestly, after using the Iolite Vape, I wouldn't recommend it. Save your money for a legit vaporizer.
i have the 2010 iolite walki talki and i use it for smoking late at night in my room. my roomates dont like the fact i smoke so i have to do it discretly. however while you are vaping and for about an hour after you can smell faint marijuana. i didnt think it smelt untill my roomates came downstairs and they said it "reeked". it didnt reek but you can definetly smell kt. despite what these other posts say. also it is one of the best vapes on the market for the price. my friend has a volcano that he dropped 500 on and my iolite works better lol. i smoke alot and one vape session gets me pretty lit
Eh, for the price, it's really not that effective of a vape. My boy has had one for a while, and it's hard to learn how to rip well, the high always seems to be drowsy (not the same high as other vapes I have used in the past), and its over $200!
really!? have you learned to cover it up or no? so im guessing it would not be safe to use if my parents are a few rooms over?
You'll be fine. When I lived at home, I used it all the time while my parents were home/awake and they never noticed. The only time anyone said anything to me was in the movie theater and after several bowls in my room. If anything, the smell from my actual bud is worse than what the iolite omits. I've found that in most cases, the prep work (pulling out your buds and grinding them) is what will cause my room to wreak
I gotta give this thread a bump as I've had my iolite out on the slopes 3 time now. Here's two reasons why I think this is the way to go for skiing/snowboarding. 1. You can totally operate it with out taking your gloves off. This might not be a big deal to some, when when it's below 20*F out with 30 mph winds you'll appreciate this. 2. If you have an "inside jacket pocket" and a small piece of rubber tubing, it's easy enough to rig the tube up so it sticks out right by your collar. Plus, since the iolite is inside your coat...it's also an instant body heater.
