So i have a 2001 Jeep grand cherokee and im about to buy 2 12" alpine type r subs. i am a COMPLETE noob when it comes to this shit so can somebody point me in the right direction? how much money this will probably cost. I can get the subs for 200$
Well, I'm 90% positive your factory amp won't power two 12's, so you'll need to buy a new amp to accomdate the power usage.. good amps run a decent buck (which I am unaware of the price atm) You'll also need a new stereo too normally. Most factory systems don't come with proper inputs for subs and power connection, so all in all, you're going to be spending well over a 1000 if not more, and considering you're a noob to all of this, you might want to get it installed by someone who knows what they're doing too.. So have some money saved up X
well im thinking i can get the subs and amp for 300-350 and a stereo for about 100-150. one of my friends said he can install it for 50$ is there anything else i am missing?
you need a special box to put the subs in, those alpines probably should go in a ported box, you also need all the speaker wire for the installation, and your probably gunna need a new head unit. id recommend alpine for the headunit and kenwood for an amp.
Needed: Box, Amp, Sub, Wiring Kit(Make sure you get inline fuses), Front Deck(Sub Out if possible), Good tunes to tweak it to Optional: Capacitor, Mids, Highs, Tweaters, Battery. I know alot of people say you don't need another battery for a 2 sub system.. Well On some subs and depending on the Draw from the front battery, it helps a Shit ton. I was running 1 12" in 1 custom built ported box(to JL audio's H.O Wedge and Tweaked) and I needed a battery ontop of my capacitor. I built mine for some comps.. JL 12w7 In H.O Custom Box, 2300 Audiobahn D mono amp. 1 ot, ran from my front battery to my rear battery and a capacitor, with 2 inline fuses, 1 at each battery. My mids all the way around were JL, and my tweaters were some off brand. I love my sound system... I plan on usuing some extra cash after my grow, to upgrade my system, I want to get back in to some comps, I want to install 6 JL 13.5w7's... It's insane I know.. But I just want to do Comps with it . My old system hit 140dB - 141dB depening on the song.. Can you imagine.. something 9x that 0_o.. sorry for the rant, Im baked..
Also, Them alpine Type R's sound great in a ported box. I know from experience, Im currently running one in my H.O wedge box. You wont be disappointed.
Go to your nearest JL Audio dealer and get 1 JL 12" sub with a 300 watt JL amp (this will be pretty loud). The sub will run you around $200 and the amp maybe $300 (this is what it cost me a few years ago when I had my jeep). I really really recommend JL Audio for anything. It is top of the line! As for a head unit I would get a Alpine for sure. Alpine imo make the best head units and you cant go wrong with the best right? I would advise you to go ahead and spend a little more money for the better gear. I went ahead and made the mistake of cutting corners and sure enough the system lasted about a week. You can get a wiring kit from wal-mart or something but your buddy who is installing should know what to have you get.
JL audio is definitely running the audio industry, but i cant really afford to drop 200$ on one 12" sub. I was definitely looking for an alpine head unit though, can somebody make a reccomendation for a good mid priced unit (model number)? i was thinking about buying it on ebay or craigslist. and cloner thanks for your help. can you explain what all the optional shit you suggested does? and would it make sense for me to buy all the optional shit when i have extra money, or is this something you should do all at once?
