  2. Scrog Thoughts

Of all the methods to grow out there I'd say the scrog is my favorite. It allows me to grow any strain and control her all the way through. No natural uneven canopy to loose light penetration.
*Another thing I like a lot about the scrog is if done properly I can expose practically every branch the plant has to offer maximum light during flowering without topping.
*Scroggin is labor intensive and very hands on. The biggest advantage with that is your on top of your grow daily. Spotting bugs or deficiencies quickly before damage because your always arm deep in the screen. Hard to miss a problem.
*The Screen to me is one of the most important tools. I've found a sturdy welded wire 2"x3" pattern to work well. Metal screens work better for me. Flimsy nets get the job done but seem more for support of the buds than actual control.
*Having control of a plant throughout the entire cycle is what we do. We provide a suitable environment and then most folks just turn them loose afterwards. With a screen you control every growth spurt and dictate where a branch will end up for the finale. Making sure she get a good seat for the show..lol

  3. Totally get the SCROG idea. I’ve SCROGed for at least 8 years. Agree with everything you said regarding the benefits. I see the advantage of a metal screen, I prefer a nylon net stretched tight because I do reach through it to get under the middle. It’s a larger square at 3”x3” and it’s soft on my forearm skin.
Not gonna photo bomb your journal, if anyone wants to see mine.

  5. Never....!!!!!

  6. I checked out the grow log. Love that lil bonsai mama. Sweet clean grow space as well. I get what your saying about the net. It does a good job too. I guess I'm just set in my ways but stubbornly flexible..lol.
The only cannabis you'll see in my house growing naturally will be the autos. Even then I'll prob bend them over too but without a screen.

  7. Thanks for the kind words about my grow. I’m stubborn too, I top once, only once.
Your new grow is nice, I know you are excited and more motivated each day.

  8. You are very welcome bro. It's refreshing to see a nice clean setup. I am excited. Feel like a kid at Christmas every day I get unzipping that tent and do what I love. Now that it's legal here it takes a lot of stress off.
I got busted in 07 with a basement full. Stopped growing for almost two decades.

  9. Legal is nice. Colorado too.

  10. I'm pleased with the new growth coming forward on the fems. 18 days old today. They appear to be happy with their accomodations so far. IMG_20231201_164627418.jpg IMG_20231201_164634700.jpg IMG_20231201_164648209.jpg

  13. Time for an Update

Been a lot happening the past days gone by. I've had more green color emerge in my tents and I'm loving it. All good intentions have bumps in the road and this grow is no different. I'll explain below.

    Automatic Strains
These little ladies are all in different time zones but basically pretty close in age. Oldest being 3 weeks today and youngest just days old.

    I49 Devil Xxl
4 plants 2-3 weeks in growth. Ive not done anything out of the normal water n feed gig. I do believe I've fed them to much but they are doing okay so far.
    IMG_20231206_193131017.jpg IMG_20231206_193149015.jpg IMG_20231206_172736923.jpg IMG_20231206_172723275.jpg IMG_20231206_172808537.jpg

The other 4 mixed bag from Fastbuds is still in the seedling stage. I'll spare you the pic..lol. Let's visit them a little later in the month.

    Feminized Ladies
All of them are 29 days from breaking ground.
LA Amnesia, Gigabud, Chemdawg millionaire guava

Now here's where we get into a huge issue I found just yesterday. I'm doing the normal daily plant checking and notice right away that the girls look funny. Not as perky as they should be. The lights came on hours ago...what's up?
    IMG_20231208_142111614.jpg IMG_20231208_142121503.jpg
They may look nice and green and appear okay but those dropping leaves are no bueno. I had been ramping up the light a little and running temps have been going up slightly. My res temps have been on the higher end of the known limits. I'd not checked the roots in a week. I found the issue. Omg what a fucking mess.
    IMG_20231208_182803281_HDR~2.jpg IMG_20231208_182830904_HDR.jpg
I look and see slime. Then I felt slime. Again, no Bueno..lol.
Now I had a decision to make. Scrap the girls or try to save them. So, of course I'm going to try.

I ran to home Depot and bought 3 five gallon buckets and catch trays. These ladies are taking a journey from hydro to peat. Like it or not..lol
I prepped the buckets with holes. Added 2" of clay pebbles, filled with Promix HP Myco. Bam!
    Now the tricky part.
I had two plants in one netpot and one in another. I dumped the pebbles and basically ripped the plant from the netpots as gently as I could and planted them in the buckets. It's a desperate move but it has to happen or they would have died. The move from hydro to peat shouldn't be that much of a shock with similar pH needs. Hell, anything is better than what they were living in..lol
Here they sit all battered and broken but alive so far.
    IMG_20231209_201705416.jpg IMG_20231209_201729268.jpg IMG_20231209_201734397.jpg IMG_20231209_201750699.jpg IMG_20231209_201754830.jpg IMG_20231209_201812546.jpg IMG_20231209_201816482.jpg

I've backed off the lamps intensity and soaked the medium well. They wont need water for days. I found the issue and took action. Now all I can do is wait for a positive response from them.

Other than the plant emergency all has been going well. I'm still tweaking the grow space and learning these led lamps. It been a blast. Hopefully I'll see a explosion of growth soon. On e these ladies get back to growing I'll throw that screen in there and get busy.

Thanks for stopping in. All comments pics or hate mail welcome..lol. Have a great grow day.

  15. It certainly does but I still find it hard to shake the paranoia. So many years I hid this shit and at one point after a bust I said fuck it and quit growing all together.
    Initially Ohio said 12 plants and now it's 6. I've got 5 over already.. . Whos counting..right?

  16. you would benefit a lot by topping

  17. best of luck they may take a week or two to get back on track but sure they will be fine

  18. I have no need to top. The scrog screen will do all that for me without removing any bud site. I never top anything. Just bend her over. Even when I don't have a screen.

Now the autos I'm not sure. Having never grown the things I'm gonna just let them do their thing this time around. I see folks too them and quad spread branches. I may do that next time but for now I'm only manipulating the feminized girls.

The debate over topping stretches for decades. It's pretty much a growers choice. Thanks for the tip though. It's a good method. Just not how I was taught.

  19. In Colorado it took some time to sort out the description aid elements of Recreational home cultivation. Originally we could do 6 plants per adult with a maximum of 12 plants in a single residence with 2 or more adults.
New seedlings and small cuttings are no longer considered in a plant count.
In Colorado an adult can grow 3 flowering plants and 3 in veg.
For many this seems limiting for home use. I get 12 oz flower per plant average. I do 2 flowering plants at a time. 2 crops per year getting 48 plus oz a year. That’s plenty enough for my wife and me. We vaporize with a Pax, enjoy top shelf flowers and bubble hash, effective pain cream for our arthritis and cannabis cooking oil for evening sleep treat.
A Colorado home grower can have and unlimited supply flowers and other home produced cannabis products in the home pantry. We can’t sell it. You can give/gift it to other in amounts that comply with public possession laws.
It took some time (years) to refine to “rules” based on the new Article in the State Constitution.

  20. I was living in Oregon when that state went legal. It was difficult to shake the paranoia and grow in comfort and without the stress. I already had all the security components in place with my grow. I watched as new growers comfortable with the new laws set up without odor control or light leak protection. These growers were soon burglarized.
When States go legal it is to protect the Citizens from State and Local prosecutions. We now have to protect ourselves from the next threat, burglary and home invasion.
