first question you know the first two little oval leaves that come up when it sprouts? is it normal for them to turn brown after about 2 weeks? the rest of the plant seems healthy... but im just not sure second question the second set of leaves (not fan ones), they are showing signs of high ph, (shriveled leaves, not brown, just kind of scrunchy) i was wondering how much lemon juice to add to the next watering (200ml) to got it back to normal (i have no ph meter) thanks sandstorm412
First question: yes -- not necessarily at two weeks, but eventually they wither and die. Second question: you need a pH meter, no way to tell how to adjust the pH if you don't know what your starting point is.
Perfectly normal for the small oval leaves to die off.Dont fret.As for the ph .I would suggest that you go to wal-mart and pick up a ph test kit from the fish products.I know its not a ph pen or probe but it will get you in the ball park.
well since i know (fairly sure) that its suffering from high ph, couldnt i just use a small amount of lemon juice with the bi daily waterings to bring it down till it looks healthy again?
alright guys i got a ph meter and my ph was about 7.2, what ph should i adjust the water to before watering?
Hey sandstorm . 5.5-5.9 for soilless mixes and hydroponics and 6.4-6.8 for soil. those are optimum ranges for the plant to take up all the neccessary nutrients and micronutrients. hope this helps. peace, e
i do understand that the ph should be around 5.9, but what ph water should i water the plants with to obtain that ph, given my current soil ph of 7.2?
Heya sandstorm . if your water is too high in pH, you need to get pH down, from walmart fish section, to correct it. Lemon juice, vinegar and sodium bicarbonate are for emergency only situations. I dont know how much to put in but mix up a gallon and experiment. after you mix it, wait 10 min before taking a reading. hope this helps. when in doubt, search it out. peace, e p.s are u using hydroponics or soil?
growing in soil, and i just watered it with lemon juice water (mild mix), i will get ph down for the next watering, quick question about that tho will there be instructions on the ph down telling me how much to mix with the amount of water to lower my ph by X amount?
What kind of dirt are you growing in? Did you add a lot of lime or other supplements? Coffee grounds will acidify your soil as will elemental sulfur or iron sulfate (mix recommended amount into soil before transplanting or work it in around the plant about an inch or so deep (just so you don't see it). It is probable that your rain water is acidic. If you can, use that to water your plants. Bottled water is pretty cheap (we can even buy it by the gallon from machines here) so if your water source is very alkaline, those will help keep the pH down.
