$2,000 budget closet grow room

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by plugged, Sep 16, 2007.

  1. I have $2,000 - $2,500 I can put toward a closet grow setup. I live in a house but at this time have no spare rooms for the grow, so thought I'd use my closet until I move into a bigger house. Dimensions are 3' deep, 10' high, 10' wide. That said, I'm confident enough to try the Sea of Green method as my first grow; but I'd like some input from you guys. Other websites I've tried have been less than useful.

First, I'm going to grow 4-6 seeds purchased from a seedback in Amsterdam and get a nice, strong female plant growing so I can use it for clones. Then I'll start with the SOG :)

What I'm looking for is recommendations (from your own personal experience - please don't suggest something you haven't done) for the best lights & equipment I can get. This grow room isn't gonna be permanent, so if it can be done without buying the most expensive equipment, I'd like to do that.

I've read lots of books (mostly Rosenthal/Cervantes) on growing and know what I need, but I don't know if certain brands might have a better reputation than others, etc.. Also, if you have any ideas for the room itself, please feel free to suggest :) I haven't even started it yet, and won't be for another 2-4 weeks.

  2. check out my grow room thread, i started out like you, similar budget.. umm yeah space is close to the same, :)

    (its in my sig)

should answer a bunch of questions.. just remeber, go overboard on the ventilation!

and for a kickass growing set up (not room, just what to grow "in"), check out the bottom link in my sig :D

  3. I was thinking of using this method to help with the smell (link).. For airflow I'm planning on just having two 3ft tall "ion breeze" style fans, one blowing air in, the other pulling it out. I plan on using styrofoam boards to coat the wall; they're more reflective than foil and help keep heat down. Probably just going to cut into them to fit around the fans so as little light as possible escapes.

I'll definitely read your posts though, everything helps. :)

  4. if you read through that thread, you'll notice what i think about it...

get a good carbon scrubber/filter and call it a day. the ONA is nice, but it reaks just as strongly as the weed, and smells suspicous in its own right (plus there's a hint of weed to it anyway)

your going to need to remove heat from the room, tahst what i mean by ventilation. if you do it right (HPS lights, say 2 600w'ers ? ) your going to need a big fan to cool the room, or the lights (use a cool tube) the fans inside the room are good, but im talking major air movemnt, like 400 CFM's at least.

another option is a portable air conditioner, but if your not moving air in/out of the room you'll need a C02 distro system.

you'll see in my thread the issues i ran into ;)

  5. What kind of carbon filter do you recommend? The whole reason I'm hesitant starting up is there are a lot of choices to make, and I would rather know which ones are best instead of learning by trial and error :) More productive that way :) I read your posts and I see you had some good luck with it. If I were doing hydro I'd probably emulate what you did.

  6. nah, emulate the bottom link in my signature, i'm upgrading to that soon :)

a home made carbon filter is what i'd sugest :)

spend some time following links on this page

I think the vast majoirty of your questions will be answered.. feel free to post or PM me any other questions that might come up.

  7. i am running into the same ventilation problem myself.. what size a/c unit would you suggest?

  8. what size room? need some details ;)

what temps, what are you currently doing to cool the room

are you bringing any air into / out of the room?

    srsly, need some details!

  9. Mordgrow,,, I found this and have heard great things about it,,, gonna give it a try,,, but it'll be a while before I know... http://www.altgarden.com/store/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=260

Plugger... Mordgrow is right about ventilation, more is better. Easier to dial it down when ya have excess then it is get more when ya don't have enuff...

Best rule of thumb I have found is your cubic feet (width x length x hieght) multiplied by 3....

    EXAMPLE: 10 feet width x 10 feet length x 8 feet height = 800

    800 x 3 = 2400cfm airflow

but like Mord says are ya running a closed system, etc, bla bla bla, yada yada yada,,, more info needed diffinently
