So, I have grown before indoors up in New England and made some killer plants, but with all my experience I am stumped on this one. I sprouted bag seeds about 14. I used good organic soil from a nursery in small black plastic pots. I think the pots were the major problem with the plants health right now. But, anyway the real problem was...they are flowering right now! WTF is going on? I started them inside and they were doing ok. Then moved them outside last month in the Sarasota area and the hairs came out. Can someone help me on the growing season down here? Did I start them too early outside? They are the worst looking plants I have ever seen. I left them at my mom's and she has been taking care of them. Looks like she lollipoped them. Tiny bud on the top of a long ass stem no fan leaves on most. She didn't do anything like that tho. I think the black pots got too hot and cooked the roots. But, are they going to revert to vegging ever or just keep flowering threw the summer. My parents insisted I still plant them in the ground to see if they get better...I wanted to cry they look so pitiful. I hope a FL grower reads this and helps me out. I have good spot at my parents to grow nice outdoor...But I don't know when to start them obviously.
I know, but you don't need a photo to answer my question. I described them...not much to see. They are just a stem with a small bud on top. A couple have some fans near the top. But, the question is- Will they stop budding and veg again? and When should I start them for outdoors in Florida?
Mismatched the hours when moved out. Set out to early as well. 15-9 or 16-8 for plants destined to be set out for summer. Seeds can be started outside May1st as the new seedling isn't light aware for the first month. Clones or seedlings over a month old are light sensitive and will flower at the drop of a hat when mismatched. It's to late to try and change then now. You can fire new beans and hope to get a crop before Aug1st triggers flower again. If you are in a frost free no freeze zone then just grow all year long like I do. 4 harvests a year here in Southern California. I use an old garden shed for a veg space and flower outside. Same routine I've run for years now. BNW
Thanks Brass for the answer. I have seen your grows in the past and love your pics. Yea it seems I can't get them to veg outdoors like you can up north. I live in Florida now where it never freezes so I will have to try to veg indoors longer and flower outside.
Even outside you can force veg with just a simple clamp light over the plant. A 25 watt CFL will keep it in veg stage as long as you want. Turn off the light and 10 weeks later harvest the plant. BNW
dont need pic they are probably revegging . since i live in boston i know are not even flowering yet. did you put them out too early Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk
Yes, I put them out too early. I got to get used to the Florida seasons. So, update on the plants. They are re-vegging now and looking great. I'm pretty sure the black plant pots killed the roots from getting too hot earlier before planting them. But now, they are growing tons of new leaves. They still have the pepper plant leaves. I will try to get some pics in the future.
I’m not gonna say I’ve grown outside in Florida or anything because it’s not legal yet. But, if I had I would say it’s too freakin hot and humid in the summer plus it’s rainy season, so overwatering is going to be a regular thing. Mold and bud rot would be a big concern. I think it’s better to start earlier in the year. But really, the heat index has been in triple digits ugh. I’m growing tomatoes and they are growing into monsters with no tomatoes which I found out why- it’s too hot. I think it’s more a matter of timing.
thanks for the reply. I wanted some input from Florida growers. I don't like this growing season either.
I'm about an hour due east of you and living off grid. I would never consider using bag seed. The genetics are just too good anymore. Get some decent seed. I started, (germinated), these autos on Feb 27. 14 weeks later.... I've learned that, in FL, it's best to keep your plants off the ground. (see pic). I spray the outside of the pots with an organic fungicide/insect repellent/miticide. Never have a problem.
Hey I use the exact same wagon for my newbies with some wire over top for the wildlife. About to paint her green for stealth though. Sent from my QS5509A using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Mine is so old it's just about rusted away. I think the new ones at HF are now a little bigger, green, and more expensive. I've got every kind of wildlife around. Nothing seems to bother my plants as long as they're in the wagon. No screen necessary.
Lucky you. I had 12 young ladies in a crate at the end of my pasture, came back an hour later, and some critter flipped, scattered, and depotted em all. Live and learn. Sent from my QS5509A using Grasscity Forum mobile app
