Hey all. Been here a while but usually just lurk. I'm starting my first proper MMJ grow since I finally have the space and cash for a decent setup now, so I thought I should start a journal. Last time I tried in a double stacked rubbermaid setup that went suprisingly well but had to ditch it when the flowering smell became too strong for the diy scrubber I made. :/ Any constructive critisim/advice welcomed! So, heres what I'm working with: Space: 3 x 5 closet (3 x 4 usable for grow) - will be sectioning off a 1 foot x 3 foot space enclosed by plywood with small vent for dry chamber while being able to keep next grow going. Lighting: 1 90w t5 and 1 125w cfl for starting; 600w air cooled hood mh/hps for later. (Putting off the high energy bill for as long as possible) Fan: 6 in. vortex connected to the light hood and then the Phresh filter for exhaust. some small inlets + small cracks in door for passive air with 2 small fans inside for circulation ( will get bigger fans later when plants are bigger.) Soil: Fox Farms Ocean Forest (plan on adding a bit of lime, 10% perlite and top dressing with masquito dunks and neem seed meal to help fight gnats, other bugs) 2 will be in - 5gallon equivelant air pots and the rest will have standard 5gallon pots Seeds: Started 2 Red Purps (female seeds) and 1 White Widow (edit: actually white grapefruit) (female seeds) 4 weeks ago, then 1 Black Kush (cali connection) and 3 Quin-n-Tonic (la plata seeds) 1 week ago. All are femmed except for the Q-N-T. Was hoping to get a scrog going but because the only CBD seeds I had were regulars, I'll hold off till next round which is better because I'll have fewer plants then anyway. So far I started them all in about 70% FFOF and 30% perlite and top dressed with mosquito dunks since I saw some gnats (overwatered a bit in the beginning). The second round of seeds I started later on I put perlite on the top layer with the mosquito dunks to try to help prevent more gnats as well. When I started, I didnt wait for my PH pen to get in and started watering with Tap water. Unfortunately I found out the tap PH was at 8.0 so I had some lock up. The WW seemed to be the hardest hit and looked like a goner but is starting to make a comeback. She was definately sensitive and may have also been a bit burnt by the nutritents that come in the FFOF. The RPs got the high ph water too but didnt seem to be harmed too much aside for a few small spots on a couple of leaves. The growth was stunted for sure though, they're pretty small for their size. will have some pics in a bit.
Small update. Not much growth but slowly moving along. Corrected the ph problem in the water. Transplanted the two Red Purps yesterday. One is in a standard 4 gallon pot and the other is in a 5 gal. Equivalent air pot. Ended up mixing about 75% FFOF and 25% perlite, then a top dressing of perlite with mosquito dunks crumbled on top and finally some neem seed meal on top. Noticed some slight drooping in the smaller new leafs. Will monitor and see if they perk up while growing out more. Could it be shock? or it might be heat stress. Got a bit too warm yesterday. The White Widow is getting better but a bit small. Waiting for the newer seedlings to get bigger and will transplant them. When I get those into bigger pots, I'll start using the 600w mh.
Today I moved the smaller plants in red solos (qnt, bk, and ww) underneath the 600w MH in hopes to get them to catch up in size with the RPs. The RPs are still under the 90w t5. Still running everything 18/6. Will see how it goes for a week. Then reevaluate.
Shit. Found a tiny red bug crawling around. Couldn't find any others, just the one and I smooshed him. Gonna search to find out what it could be and how to kill them just in case there's more.
Having trouble with the app so I can't upload pics. Anyway... Two bigger red purps look alright but a little droopy. Not worried about that, I'll let it dry out more but the leafs have a chalky feel to the touch. All the other plants feel smooth. Anyone know what would do that and if it's something to worry about? The smaller babies are doing well and catching up under the 600w. Probably be ready sometime next week for transplant.
I subbed in and i feel man. Apps been driving me crazy since the last update. Most are lookin good Stoners journey to cannabis
Thanks for the sub man! Hope they fix it soon it's so much more convenient then trying to look at the site on a phone. So theres definitely mites on the bigger plants. Saw the little red critters under a scope on the leaves. Didn't realize how freakin hard it is to keep the scope steady and take a pic but managed to capture a shot of the eggs. Tons of them, thought they were actually water drops at first. Ordered azamax and spinosad . I also have some neem oil. Unfortunately dark period is from 1- 7pm and I won't be around to spray during dark until the weekend. I'm planning on spraying neem on saturday then azamax on Sunday. Hoping they don't damage the plants too much before then and this will take care of them!
Never heard of azmax. Ive heard tons of people have sucess with diatamacrous earth and then apply neem oil 1-2 times per week to keep them away. Good idea not applying the neem oil tho... light + neem oil = no bueno. Learned that the hard way
I think I actually have some of that diatomaceous earth stuff somewhere with my pool chemicals. Gonna have to check tonight and hopefully I'll be able to get a jump on it before spraying this weekend. Thanks for mentioning it,I just assumed the sprays would work better!
Ive never had any experience diatanaceous earth weed wise. I think you just apply a small layer on the top soil but id look it up, tons of people use it I just know when i had roosters the only thing that would kill the flea infestation was diatamaceous earth. Threw it in the ground every day for about a month and there would be none in sight
Alright so these are the things I think are the eggs. If so, a shit ton are about to start eating my plants.
I'm gonna try to go with those as a last resort. The room isn't in an ideal place for them and and my vent system would probably suck a lot of them up because it's not hooked up to the scrubber yet. Just an open duct hose currently. doob's first indoor grow
I think thatd be my route as well. Ive just always heard its impossible to actually rid them from your grow room. Wouldnt know tho, never had em
So I had some DE but it wasn't as fine as the food grade that your supposed to use I guess. It looked pretty fine and powdery so I used it anyway think it couldn't hurt. I put a thin coating on the leafs and shook off a bit so it wasn't too coated. Then I added some to the top layer of soil. This morning the plants looked stressed out as shit and I'm hoping they don't die. If they still look bad I'll wash it off tonight. I keep making shit worse ahh! doob's first indoor grow
So they're looking a little better than yesterday but noticed some leaf curl on the bigger pots that have the neem seed meal on top of the soil. Temps are good, ph is right so not sure if it's coming from the neem seed meal, the dolomite lime, or the diatomaceous earth. Anyone out there know what would cause the leaf curl? My plan is to either spray with Azamax either today or tomorrow depending on when it gets in and then leave the plants the heck alone. I keep being so impatient haha. doob's first indoor grow
