1st journal, advice before we begin?

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by Davidspiccolli, Nov 10, 2020.

  1. I moved half way across the country for the love of cannabis and botany. Had some tragic death in the family. It is a real wake up call folks and we will all experience it at some point :/

What in trying to say is that im motivated and willing to do whatever it takes to develop the green thumb. I keep running grows and ive had to destory my entire crop 1st bc of bugs. 2nd bc of mold. 3rd bc of light leak. 4th bc huge temp fluctuations caused hermaphrodite/bananas. Finally finally, i have the nicest ladies ive ever had... and one just popped some green-ish pre-picturr perfect bananas.

Dood, my fkn heart sank. My gf even tried to blow me but i couldnt... my roomate tried me sum dabs but... fuck that. I just wanna get my indoor grow to atleast the level of perpetual sensimillia. How can I hold such a high GPA in academia but be a stinkin dingleberry in growin herb.

So... to start a proper journal w grass city will I post under indoor grow? Title grow journal?
    List my equipment?
List my genetics/seed bank? (Since my flowering clones may be genetically sub-par.
    Lots of pics right?
What else can I do to succeed? Any advice before I start this journal thread would be great. Plz help folks. I promise to buy a bum an oz or donate my motor-cycle. Idgaf. Yall dont understand. I want this basement to succeed more then I wanna finish med school. Whelp Grass City mastahz, yall my last hope

  2. Hmm sorry about the death to start, just went through losing my grandfather. He raised my brother and I. Sucks. But sounds like you need to start off with a solid genetic. Bugs and molds are preventable with treatments from the start, as for nanners...I pick them if its later in flower and say screw it and finish. Oh well if ya find a seed here and there. But that is normally a stress issue that causes them. But ya I would suggest a strain that's easy for a beginner. Northern Lights, white widdow, Gelato strains. These are all really easy and resilient to molds, bugs, and stress.
My advice is start smaller, find what works for you and what doesn't. Know your setup, your schedule and strain. Ive been around growing for many years. Ive seen entire crops go from bugs, stress, molds, you name it ive seen it. Lol. Really though until MI went legal I didn't grow much myself. Now I have a small room I built and keep pumping out decent batches but I know I can do better. So what's your setup looking like? Medium used? Lights, nutes, all that crap? The more info GC knows the more we can help. And what I've learned most is patience. That and good genetics are the best start.

  3. GC has a section for doing a grow journal.
    good luck

  4. I started off buying clones and also had issues , my advice grow from seeds only

  5. Give us some details on your setup.

We can offer some advice that may help you through your opportunities.

  6. Welcime to GC man! Whole detailed list of your grow, pics are also a great way to show and tell

  7. Why so? Im very open minded to learning brotha. So far I have always had bad exp. W seed. I stress over the 50%males and always end up with some type of hermie situation. I was told that growing from seed is much more difficult and i may have ran into issues bc i had many strains, about 5 different ones. Took some time to make the switch but currently have only 1 strain which should respond similar to my regiment, schedule, set up and with the clones ive had all plants identical to the mother plants so, so far im more pro clone. But please share n tell me why. Maybe ill learn something new and attempt to switch bk.

  8. Thats a good point. Had a busy few days w life, plants, plandemic, plantains... still getting used to forums in general. I took plenty of pics and made a good list to post on here. One moment and thanls for the warm welcome. Ill remember to do the same for others when I get some skills.

  9. So... I got the seed from an oz my prof. Purchased at a Denver dispensary. Apparently it had tons of beans. They called it Blue dream. I did seed 2 crop, learning as I go. Saved 3 plants as mothers. Cloned from those qnd ended up flowering the mothers shortly after. What I have now it two older plants in flower and a small gang I just threw in my flower room... thats my current situation.

My flower room set up is a big ol drain table. The gray rubbery floor in some of the pics. 6 1000watt "XXXL magnum" grow hoods. HPS bulbs. 2 inline 12inch intale fans pulling air from the outside. 2more 12inch inline fans pulling air from outside via ducting. Each of the 2fans connects outside air, moving thru a set of 3 hoods, via ducting, collecting hot air and dumping it straight into my underground crawlspace (and heating my whole house :)
Few box fans and oscilating wall mount fans. Carbon filt... am I missing something?

From the sound of it, its obvious im doing indoor. Im in colorado and it tends to be really dry here. My flower room stays at a steady 40%RH. When had a humidifier in there ladies got moldy so I humidify my veg n clone room now only. Also, blew some gas bomb after mold party to disinfect the entire basement. My temps have been very stead between 72 and 84. There was a moment where (prob. Bc of outside air intake, my room minimum hit 66 and so i set up heaters which turn auto on/off at a set temp. I find the automation really nice. Is that what is responsible for my problems?

  10. As ya can see, ive been very busy taking some pics.

  11. So the last few pics show it the best... one of those flowering ladies has alot of the lower branches looking like... instead of bud structure, its very pistil bubbly and extra foxtail (i hope.im using that term accurately) thats where I think I found a banana and quickly discarded that tini thing. Also, my plants grew kind of tall and i mever got very good at topping, fimming, bending stems so... so far its been stick and twisty tie system until I can learn a better method. Lastly, I forgot. Im growing soil. Its I think its called pro-mix PH. From canada i think. Black/purple bag. I can take a pic tmrw.if necessary. I use the "natural organic" brand nutes and follow the recommended schedule... bc ima newb and gotta start somewhere.

  12. Some more.pics of what im assuming to be a hermie. Weird fox tail tips and if u zoom on the pic where the buds inbetween my fingers... i get this weird stem and sepersted pistils (i think) or like... bubble plant matter. Sorry still working on terminology. Ps, the nice colas or off my other plant thats doing heady.

  13. Last post I sware.... haha. 2pics are if my 6 HPS magnum hoods and the ducting running thru the walls. 1 pic of a leaf mystery/worry I have w the hang of ladies I just added to the bloom room. Those are lower broad fan leaves and seem 2 sustain sum damage but im not sure why. Its still pretty svarce symptom down there so figured why not ask. Thank u in advance green thumb masters.

  14. Its likely your overfeeding if your following a companies feed chart... most people cut the feed chart numbers in half or have a ppm meter to check the exact amount of food in the water.

Bro that is a really nice set-up! You could be pumping some decent weight out that size room

What is the size of that space specifically? And how many watts do you use to flower?

  16. I got i use 1000 on 2 plants currently bc my other plants didnt nake it. N the room is about 8x12

  17. I think the law allowes me to have like 6 plants but even with that, I only had 2 survivors

  18. This is probably your issue right from the very start.

Stress induced hermaphrodism may have brought about those beans. If it wasn't a stable variant of the strain, it may be contributing further. Not every breeder is as skilled as the next. Pretty sure Blue Dream is like so many strains that have many different breeders.

You may be sourcing your cuts from a potentially genetically flawed mother. Any stress you add could be a trigger. High heat combined with low humidity (a spider mite haven), overwatering and choking your roots, excess salts, drastic pH swings etc.

Its probably never going to stop because I bet it's coded into the genetics.

I get why you prefer clones but if your mom is flawed so will your cuts be, until the end of time.

Maybe I missed something else you've added but that's a huge red flag for me with the bagseed and "tons of beans"

  19. Hmm. Stressed induced hermaphrodism. How can i figure out what that could have been. I keep very observant and must not understand something correctly. I know if ot gets too hot or too cold, the plants could hermie? So, i know the coldest its ever gotten was a one time ordeal when my heaters didnt kick on. It was momentarily 69°f from the root diodes but the hottest was 84, (at the canopy diode) im guessing that is too hot? Also, idk if i wrote this above (or correction) but the room is 16x20 sq ft. If that has anything 2 do with it. But yes i agree, maybe not a stable variant of the strain. Also I went with your advice and started a batch of seedlings from Humbldt Seed Comp.

Also you mention stress triggers like over watering and chocking roots. How would I know im doing that? You might have hit the nail right on the head wow! Sometimes my soils doesnt get as dry as I would like it to be. Ill have to tell my roomate who likes to help to watch fr that.would this be a reason why after i cropped, my roots look really sall and brown and very thing? Maybe i can add a pic? Also. How can i find out if i have excess salt? I have a ppm meter and i was told that for my soil, my ppms going in should be 700-1200? How should they come out? Is that how i test excess salt? Also. No drastic PH swings but this is gold. Thabk u so much and im taking major notes here :)
