1st indoor grow - [HAWAIIAN PUNCH] - Need help

Discussion in 'Marijuana Grow Journals' started by temperamental69, Sep 22, 2008.

  1. This is my First grow ever. I posted a couple topics already and in a few other posts, and it seems everyone recommended starting a grow journal. So here's mine.

First, I'm a very inexperienced grower, and this is my first attempt. I am using 100% Female clones of Hawaiian Punch weed, purchased from one of the Government of Canada's Legal distribution shops in Toronto. When I got them, they were inside pots with already mixed soil, although I am not 100% sure if there were nutrients already added (which I will be finding out tomorrow, although I suspect there MUST have for them to grow this far).

For the first day I got them, I had no supplies so as per others' information I just left them out in the daylight and put them in complete dark for a few hours, then back under some regular household lights so they could get SOME light while I went to the store.

Please, as we go on, and because I am a very novice grower, give me as much help as possible. I have NO clue where to go next from this point on.. Any and all help is very VERY much appreciated. And I thank you in advance.

Also, I bought everything that I could find in the store that seemed to match what people around here were recommending either to others or myself. I ended up spending close to 50 bucks, which is really not bad at all in my books. Please, PLEASE let me know if I don't really need any of the stuff I bought, so I can return it.

    Now to the good stuff..

Everything is provided in pictures, since I cannot describe everything by word for the advanced growers in here..Sorry about this.

    MATERIALS:

The only Peralite the store had:

The only potting soil they had also, which I am not even sure I need:

I heard that cow maneure is exceptionally good for marijuana growth.. So I picked some up, lemme know if I don't really need it:

The nutrients/plant food I bought, I was told this was the best stuff by someone in the "Your questions answered here.." thread:

    THE GROW

I am using a simple box lined with aluminum foil (I am guessing for reflective purposes?). I have the plants seated in the bottom inside their individual pots.

I have decided that I am going to use a 24/0 light cycle.

The lights being used are TWO CFL 23 Watt (I believe, but it says it equals 60W per light, so 120 in total) @ 6500K. The light is placed approximately 10 inches to 1 foot above the plants. I hope this is fine, I tested it by placing my hand above the plant and I could feel only a very very tiny amount of heat, if any.

    The pictures:

Questions that come to mind right now:

    1. How long should I keep this 24/0 cycle going for?
    2. How long should I wait until I start to add nutrients, etc?

I hope I'm doing good so far.. :)

  2. I just put a regular household fan (large size) and am running it on its lowest setting.. I have it just blowing over the top of the container (the plants aren't being hit by the wind) for air circulation.

  3. looks good so far and good luck

  4. Sorry, bumping because I still have those few questions :)

Already on Day 2 and it looks as if they've grown about 3 inches so far. I dunno if that's good or not, but I'm going to start measuring their rate of growth with a tape per day.

  5. you dont have 120watts, you have 46, look at ACTUAL watts not equivilent, get more on your plants

  6. they might be stretching out so keep the light close to your plants so they dont stretch.

  7. im a novice as well,
but i was under the impression
    that aluminumfoil creates hot spots.
Which isnt great for the plants. White paint
would be better if you cannot get mylar or an
emergency blanket which has mylar on it already..
I personally would have gone with the 18/6 instead of 24/0
BUT this is YOUR grow and for the most part it comes down to
YOUR decision. Good luck with the grow, ill be watching........:) -Ny

  8. only reason people like 18/6 instead of full 24 is the light bill.

  9. let me just ask what the full benefit is by keeping them lit 24/0.?

If the output for the electrical light is 23 watts equivalent to 60 watts it should be the same.. Shouldn't it? Otherwise what they taught us in school was completely wrong (film-lighting).

Also, I just called the store and they told me that they did not add nutrients to it, other than what the soil already had base with it.

So now I really have an important question:

When should I add nutrients, etc, new soil, and what mixture should I use? I posted pics of everything that I bought so please try to use those, as I cannot go out and purchase anything other than new bulbs.

The store I got them from was taking care of them from babies up until this point, where they are vegging clones now.

  11. the lights need to be closer like 3" and go by the actual watts and your gonna need more lights the sooner the better are u going to flower with cfl's?

  12. How many lights will I need? Someone on here said I only need 50w per plant, and I've only got two plants. Two CFL's seemed logical to me :(

I WAS going to flower with lower colour temperature CFL's but if I cannot do this then I have no choice. Can I not?

  13. I've read 40 watts per square foot. So, 40/plant.
The only reason people do 18/6 is if they're having temp problems...in which case you would leave your lights off for the 6 hottest hours of the day. But, cfl's won't get hot enough to do that.
Also, with cfl's...you can go 60 70 watts per plant...40 is just a min

  14. Okay then so all I really need are two more lights, preferably three.

I REALLY need the soil questions answered now.. I think there are some defeciencies in the nutrients or the soil or something.. I'm getting brown spots and some leaves are yellowing on the edges, and a couple are curling upwards. The rest of the plant looks fine, as I pictured.
