Video of Veg Cycle 31 Days:
    [ame=http://www.vimeo.com/8984506]Querkle Veg on Vimeo[/ame]

    Extra Background: Backlog Entries
Fly Problems: I posted about pests and basic idea was to keep doing what I am doing which was...
    1) I have a No Pest strip in the flowering room, I might need another for the veg room. (This was taken out and remedied by a combination of lady bugs and mantids)

    2) I have praying mantis eggs that haven't hatched (been 10 days or so. I don't think they have hatched I haven't seen any green ninjas, but if you see a ninja does he no longer become a ninja?)

    3) I have used soap spray to kill adults and crawlers, when I see them and the anger wells up inside me like a raging hulk I calmly spray a little soap on the top of the medium.

    4) I also have been using mosquito dunks in my 1 gal jugs I use for mixing water in (5 each with half a dunk soaking for each gal a couple days before watering / feeding). 4 Feedings with the dunks.

    5) I have used potato slices (going to put some more in today to see If i can capture a picture of the larvae so I can hate them even in their infant stages.

I can't seem to get rid of these assholes. Maybe the praying mantis will help finish them off. They are now much worse in the veg room than flower (or they just die faster in flower room). I see lots of corpses in flower but no live adults. And not a ton of crawlies.

I didn't use my oz of prevention so now I need a lb of cure (my signature quote choice was partially inspired by these pricks).

  2. Nice. Plants look really good.

  3. Thanks! I will try and get some close up pics. Also if people like the time lapse I can put one up every 2 weeks or something. I increased the frame capture rate also for 12/12. I have an excel spreadsheet I keep growth info and feeding, temps, humidity. 1/30/10 = Day 7 of Flower. I will post first flowering video at 2 weeks i think. Unless people want it sooner, or later. Or if nobody cares I won't bother.

  4. I had first fungus gnat 1-11-10 I got some soap and sprayed down leaves and medium on the 12th, and I got a no pest strip vapor thing that lasts 4 months (that seemed to help with adults flying around). I then got some mosquito dunks and first applied 1-20-10 feeding. I also put a couple praying mantis eggs in on the 18th. I still see some dead flys under the big lamps (hitting the glass) 2 Plants which were infected are using 50% of the water of the healthy plants but are looking a lot better. Are their roots too damaged from being munched on? Do you think they are not at the res? will the roots still grow in 12/12 light? Or should I switch them back to veg room. They have already been under 12/12 for a week though and are looking healthier, I was going to keep them flowering.

I added 3 strips of plywood under the plastic drain trays to try and keep the buckets away from the cold slab now that temps are under control. Currently Feeding every 3-4 days now. I was over watering like a newb in the beginning. Between weight test and sticking finger in medium to test moisture I have gotten a much better grasp. For any new grower best advice I can give so far from what i learned is water when needed (weight and dryness test) and leave them be. that's the biggest lesson I have learned so far... and maybe pest prevention is a lot easier than pest removal.

  5. Cool journal...subscribed.

  6. Hey thanks for checking out my journal! I've been looking though yours and good job! I really like your setup and most of all your time lapse. When I build my pc case I was going to put a mini camera in there so that I could do a complete time lapse video but I never got around to it. I think in a couple grows or so I'll be able to get that done!

Let us know how your yields turn out

  7. Yeah, I think I finally got my lights setup the way I want so the flowering time lapse will be more...steady feeling. How often do you guys want video updates? Every week, every two weeks, also how long would you like them? I take almost 400 pics a day while lights are on. So like I could do 1 week updates in 30 sec or something or 2 weeks in 30-60 sec. Or longer or shorter whatever people like more.

First signs of flowering/sexing captured! Pulled a couple plants and took some pics. I looked over them and didn't see any nuts (hermies, as these are all from clones, Oaksterdam Nursery Clones from Co-Op. Glad to see some female pre-flowers, starting showing up around day 8 but wasn't sure Day 9 (afternoon) I took one of the pics noticed just a couple pistils, on day 10 (AM) most plants had atleast a couple pistils showing. Some even have some orange / purple looking pistils (in line with the strain).

  11. Ssssprrttt!

For the flying ones the hanging sticky fly-rolls can wreak havoc upon their numbers. Doesn't do shit for the eggs. For a passive offense it's effective. So just one weapon in an arsenal...

I love what you're doing here. That light is so badass I wish I'd got one myself. Well the ol'birthday is coming up ;) so maybe wish wish.

Those hermies can be real heart-breakers. Not too hard to spot but a bitch to cut one that has nice buds forming.:(

  12. I am going to beat these gnats!

The Super Sun 2? I am really happy with it I got it for 140 after tax with a 10% discount at my local store. Great hood, nice light in a tight package, very happy I didn't get a big unit like the magnum

  14. wow, sick journal! your plants are looking
great. im definitly pulling up a chair.

  15. Plants looked a little crispy and burned lights are far room is 68-72 during day 60-65 at night

I switched to RO water from 1200PPM hard and I think there are too many salts still left I was watering my nutrient mixture at about 1200ppm total with RO compared to 2000-3000 with my TAP. I think there might be built up salts, next watering will be RO + Mosquito dunks at about 150ppm to start maybe 200 depending on how long dunks were sitting in there it seems to bump up the ppm a bit.

Hopefully this will leech them a little and reflect in next weeks video update. The flowers are coming along nicely the leaves just look poor (they never looked green and lush though) between bad water during veg and first week and a half of flower, a little over watering at beginning, lights too close at start, too much heat at start, gnat flies, built up salts (theory), they aren't doing too bad. Humidity is holding at about 40%.

I have my green control humidity controller set to kick on at 40% and I walk in a lot and its off, but my thermometer says 50%, I trust digital $15 thermometer less...

I changed the 6" hood fan to vent based on environmental control with the 4" fan. I am not using CO2 i thought about disconnecting the hood intake from the garage to the room to lower humidity to 30-40% instead of 40-50%. The temp will be under 70 all day if I have the fan run alongside the lights. I am trying to bring the temp up to 72 during day so I set the fans to run only on environmental control.

I have a 4" fan venting both rooms 24/7 and a circulating fan, so there will be fresh air coming in at a slow steady pace.

    Any thoughts?

  16. Hey, just read through the whole thread, voted on the hps's for flowering, lumens is what you want, towards late flowering you can throw on the MH for the uvb to ice them girls over, but it only works if you dont have glass filtering out the uvb rays, otherwise stick with the HPS'! How are the girls looking? are they recovering from your super concentrated tap water?

  17. Still looking great man.

I did some more research after seeing the split and decided to ask here but what people thought HPS+MH for first 2 weeks of Flower then HPS+HPS until Week 7 or 8 and do HPS+MH

Let me know what you think if so I can switch it before they come on in the AM pretty easily any day.

I watered them this morning with Flora Kleen 4 Gal of RO (Normal Feeding size and schedule) I just watched the time lapse and they seemed to perk up a little... that or just wishful thinking. I hope tomorrow that they show some improvement. New growth looks pretty good actually its the old damaged stuff sticking around. Buds are coming nicely little bit bigger and starting to fill out and show up more. This weeks video will be much better but week 4 I am hoping for a good show. I turned the capture rate down to half and will reduce the FPS to 30 from 60 should be a little more pleasing on the eye (halfway through video). Hopefully 7AM tomorrow looks better than 7AM did today if there is a difference ill post it up.

I think they are doing okay. I think the evil Gel Water was rocking their faces off. I tested again today and my PPM from tap was 1100 RO was 60ish. I used my wifes glass from last night to fill up with tap water to test... she picked it up and spit it out tonight and yelled at me *damn white widow i found making me forget to put stuff away*

  19. Leeched 1 plant today with RO and the runoff water coming out was unreadable ppm after a full gal it was 1800 after 2 gallons it was 600 ppm I put it back and thought I would do 1 more than looked middle of the road but healthy during 1st gal of leeching the bucket slipped and plant uprooted and was bent... real sad. Then I saw how underdeveloped the root structure was, sorry didn't think about getting a camera was worried about plant. But about 1/3 of the bucket was full of roots and not evenly either. Did not look healthy and it was INFESTED with adult flys most looked dead but thousands of them it was bad. So I mixed up a fresh batch of perlite and verm and transplanted after soaking roots in bucket and carefully breaking away old medium from root ball (hindsight probably would have done it a little differently. I got most of the vermiculite to sink and I was so worried it was going to die, i just took a peak at it (3 hours after transplant) and im not sure but... i swear it looks as good if not better than before. It actually might be showing improvement. My tap water must be damn near toxic waste with any amount of nutes in it. Glad I have my softener and RO running WAY better for me and plants (look how healthy my hobby is! long live the vape)
