1st Grow Soil-less

  1. Ok so I'm sorry - kind of starting this late but I have plenty of pics to catch everyone up (since all everyone really wants is bud-porn anyways ;-)

Ok, so a little history on myself - I've grown off and on for a while, always in soil and always start from seeds. I feel each plant is unique and should be treated as such. Anyways... I decided to try soil-less medium this time and build my own self-contained hydroponics system. I soon learned the 5gal. bucket/gh farm kit method sucks without a separate water supply and having to changed the water/nutrient solution every few days. Next go round I think I'm going to try a flood n drain system (home built of course). Other than that - zero problems until recently and judging from the plants I think I know the issue but would love some more experienced growers feedback otherwise enjoy the pics of the entire grow :)

    Hydroponics System:
    4 GH Farm Kit
    4 5gal Bucket
    4 10" Mesh Bucket Lids
    2 Air Pump (2 outlet)

This system was easy to setup for a first time hydro-grower but the main 2 drawback I've personally encountered is root management and changing the water/nutrient solution.

    Lighting:
    1 400w MH/HPS w/ Air-Cooled Hood (Upgrading to 600w next go round).
    4 30w Florescent Either 2700k or 6000k depending on what I'm doing.
1 6" Duct fan keeping it cool to the touch.

3 "Picks" transplanted into the home-built system 09/16/11

  14. 11/28/11 - Still looking good but starting to detect a little drooping in the leaves. Almost time to flush again - BUT! It just dawned on me that the huge mass of roots has grown well into the water/nutes. It may be drowning a bit (which is what my brain tells me is the issue).

Anyone know how to get the roots up out of the water in my particular setup and still allow the water to drain quickly?

and a couple quick ones from today.... 11/30/11.

Still looking a bit limp from usual.

...flushing and attempting to get the roots out of the water tomorrow and if that doesn't help :'(
