1st Grow Lowryder #1 Micro CFL Stealth Growbox

Discussion in 'Micro Grows' started by BoomersDaddy, Jan 28, 2011.

  1. Hello GC! I've been lurking for several weeks and I finally decided to post my grow.

Strain: Lowryder #1 (auto fem from attitude)
1 week from sprout (Seeds popped Jan 17, 1 broke through soil on Jan 19, the other on the next day)

Box: Purchased stealth growbox online (bad decision) that I have had to heavily modify by ripping the provided small fans, cutting a larger exhaust port and installing a larger 120mm computer fan (odor will be addressed later, I have a few odor absorbing gel units and will fashion a DIY carbon filter if necessary after flower). I also modified the box to accommodate at least one more bulb, several free ports to ad lighting as I bring the plants down as they grow. The original power strip included in the pre-fab box is permanently mounted, so I have created a platform/dvd box elevation system to keep the plants close to the light.

Lighting: 4 65k 26watt cfl for veg, 4 27k 26watt cfl for flower (will add supplemental lighting if possible/necessary as I progress. 18/6 light schedule

Soil/Nutes: FFOF potting soil with additional perlite added (about 1/3 perlite to soil ratio). Fox Farms nute system (Grow Big, Big Bloom, Tiger Bloom). I have not started adding any nutrients, I will think about starting the grow big and big bloom in about a week depending on progress.

As of now they both look healthy, the larger plant broke the soil 1 day before the smallest. When comparing the two you can virtually judge the progress of 1 day of growth, and it's substantial.

Roots have started peeking out of the drainage holes of each container (approximately 1 gallon pots, non-standard hand me downs I found) so there is already a decent root system under the plants filling the pots.

Temps are steady in the mid 70s fahrenheit during the day and dip down to the mid 60s at night with the lights out. Humidity was a problem at first as I couldn't break 20%. I purchased a better humidifier for my room and the levels in the box improved and finally crept into the 30s.

Anyway this is my first formal attempt at growing outside of bagseed in a cup in the window. I don't have huge hopes for yield, but I plan on making it to harvest and I will update as I go. Comments, critique, suggestions and questions all welcome!

    Thanks!

  2. Nice setup, cant wait to see her grow..goodluck bro!

  3. sounds good. everything seems fine and they look healthy so far. dont use ferts or nutes untill they are 14days old tho. you should keep updating here and make this your own grow journal. gl

  4. Thanks for the encouragement bro!

Yep, no nutes for at least a week. they look too happy to feed.

The smaller plant looks stunted compared to her sister, yet still nice and healthy otherwise. Pictures later tonight or tomorrow.

  5. Day 11 from seed

The big girl is looking significantly bigger (1-3) than the little girl, several more leaf sets and actual nodes showing up. Both are healthy, no signs of anything bad.

Big girl is starting to smell skunky!

  7. That's a beastly-looking fan! Out of interest, how noisy is it? I've got three smaller fans in my pc box, and they sound like a fairly loud old computer, so it's not too much of a problem!
    Cheers.

  8. Unfortunately I scrapped this grow out of paranoia... but I did grow a ton of basil, cilantro and catnip in the setup! Works like a charm and I've got tons of fresh herbs for me and the cat.

It's just a standard 120mm PC fan, and it's quiet as a churchmouse. I've actually covered it w/ a grate to keep plants clear of the blades.

  9. no updates on the lowryders? =)

  10. Very Nice. I am planning on growing one LowRyder in a homemade stealth grow box which I haven't made yet. I'm also planning on installing a DIY carbon filter, ? watts of CFLs and two normal sized intake and outtake fans. This will be my first grow. Any suggestions?

  11. The low ryders have been scrapped.
