Well here it goes. Today is officially the first day of my growing project. I went out after school and bought some supplies to get started: -Big Rubbermaid Container ($9.00) -Power Strip ($3.50) -Socket to Plug adapters ($2 x 3 = $6.00) -Y adapters ($2.50 x 3 = $7.50) -Timer ($5.50) -6 x 100w Daylight 5000k CFLs (2/$5 x 3 = $15.00) -1 can Flat Black spray paint ($1.00) -3 cans Flat White spray paint ($3.00) CURRENT COST: $50.50 This is going to be a semi-stealth grow with everything contained in the Rubbermaid container, odor-controlled, sound proof, and mostly light proof. I have germinated bagseeds before, but I have never harvested a bagseed crop, so this is still a learning experience on my part. I haven't purchased it yet, but the soil/medium I am using consists of 75% Miracle Grow Organic Potting Soil + 25% Miracle Grow Perlite. Anyways, here are some pics of the forth-coming setup... I painted the inside of the container flat black first to try to keep this thing from glowing at night. Then I painted flat white...3 cans worth and it still wasn't enough to completely cover the black, but it's going to have to work. The box still glows in complete darkness, but it's hard to tell when the sun is shining. Here is the light fixture that is attached to the lid of the box: Over the past few months I've been collecting seeds from the dankest weed I could find that had seeds. Here's a pic of them all having a party... And then some went home/passed out/got thrown away, which left me with... So I picked out the prettiest ones and threw them in a cup of water... Cool huh? So at this point, time takes over. I'm waiting for the seeds to sink to the bottom. The ones that do not sink will get tossed and I will begin to germinate the rest. Hopefully some will be ready tomorrow after class... Feel free to shoot any suggestions/comments my way, they will be greatly appreciated!!
Ok so time for a quick update. Right before I went to bed I decided to check the seeds to see if any had fallen. Low and behold all but 4 sank. So, that leaves me with 7 seeds to play with... Alrighty, time to begin germination!! Until next time...Next update will be GREEN!!
Nice setup you got going so far. Best of luck to you with the grow. At some point soon, you're going to need some ventilation in there. Computer fans are your best bet subbed
i've germinated seeds like that once but i prefer the paper towel method. your grow has a lot of potential i like the set up, i'm a CFL guy myself. gonna be keepin a eye on this one
I have germed seeds before with the paper towel method and I believe this method puts the least amount of stress on the plants, but it's all preference. And for ventilation...I'm going to cut holes on each side for fans. I will probably go pick up a couple of the big computer fans later on today. Any suggestions on what I should do for odor? I know I won't have to worry about the smell for a long time, but I need to at least figure out something.
Day 3 - Still no sprouts, I'm thinking they might be too moist. Would this mean the seeds would be rotten, or still germm-able?
lulz sorry I somewhat forgot about this thread! well very few of the seeds germ'd and the ones that did survive got burned to a crisp by my CFLs! You should check out my new journal though, it started around May 20 an I'm into week 2 of flowering... mods can delete this thread
