i picked up a 91 audi 80 quattro 5 sp manual. inline 5 2.3 liter. its got 147k on it. i want to mod the car but i don't know if it's worth rebuilding the inline 5. or just doing a swap with a different motor? any opinions are appreciated i'm open to anything.
oh nd i forgot to mention its the sedan model. and its got aftermarket rims. i got stock rims and tires for it with 100% percent tread on the stock tires
If you want to have a stock feel, rebuild the motor and beef it up a bit around the issues you want to address. (I want more power, I plan on putting a turbo, I want to tune the ECU, etc. You need to compensate for those) If you want more power then i'd suggest a VW turbo. They are inline 4's with 7-14psi turbo. 1.8T might be the cheapest. The 2.0T just screams and floats everywhere you drive, its a pretty nice feeling especially when you're in a light weight GTI. If you want an strong/smooth engine power and clutch combination then i'd go for a BMW Inline 6 with an aftermarket turbo fitted with BMW's 6 speed. NOTE: These options might not even fit in your car but Volkswagen's inline 4's and BMW's 6's are pretty small. If they do fit, you will also need a new ECU to fit that engine and because 1995+ engines are usually OBD2 (On-board Diagnostics).
Dude, those I5s are so fucking beefy, I'll personally come through your computer and slap you if you swap it out. Just throw a simple turbo set-up on it and have it dyno tuned by a professional and you'll be straight for a while. Even just swapping all of the oem turbo parts from the oem turbo i5 would be a nice gain. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEK7POxpVeE]Audi Sport Quattro E2 "The Sound" - YouTube[/ame]
2.8 24v vr6 swap it , the 2.3 motor isn't a powerhorse but it can be built up if you want to totally rebuild the internals
