It's the new year and the US government has passed 40,000 new laws to ring in 2012. One of the most controversial laws that President Obama signed is the National Defense Authorization Act. The legislation allows for the indefinite detention and torture of someone suspected of being a member of al-Qaeda, including US citizens. Many Americans are concerned that their civil liberties are deteriorating and are giving up on their own government. George Hemminger, founder of Survive and Thrive TV, gives us his take on NDAA and SOPA.

 

That is what these idiots do. The technocrats and the bureaucrats sit around all day coming up with new ways to 'regulate' or 'throttle' your freedoms and your rights.

Partly because they want to generate even more money for local, state and federal coffers in a crippled economy and partly because they are fascist control freaks who enjoy turning rights in to privileges and administering human behavior.

There is a good chance that your local lawmakers are no better than the boobs in congress. Many of whom are heavily invested in things such as spy technology or private for profit prisons so they need more ridiculous laws and a police state to keep the money flowing.

I agree with you man but this is what the dumbed down public wants. You can't warn people that our once free society is creeping in to authoritarianism because people have been conditioned to love it or they block it out.

People always think this stuff is trivial when it happens to someone else but when they find themselves brutalized by police and behind bars for having a brown lawn only then do they have the nerve to act surprised.

btw you forgot that it is illegal to drive through Tennessee with cash. Other states and towns are adopting similar measures.

These regulations suck yes, but the regulation thats destroying America is the Federal Reserve Act.

Where did I say this? Some shit the FDA does is unproven or outdated, but the fact is that if their was no FDA shit would be worse, no regulations for food and medication is impractical, we as consumers have no fucking idea where this shit is coming from that we put down our throats, the agency is a safety precaution,

As I said, some shit does need to be change, but it's illegal until changed, obviously their had to be debate at one point or another that that type of milk can cause sickness.

Why do we need a government institution to regulate what I should and should not eat or put into my body, and tell me what is okay and what isn't? Shouldn't I have the choice to consume what I want? The FDA allows dozens if not hundreds of thousands of people to die each year from taking drugs which are certified "safe" and given the green light to be manufactured, distributed, and prescribed.

 

Ya know, I could continue with more of my teasing but obviously that would rile you up needlessly.

There is a lot to argue with but I will keep it simple. You have no rights to my rights, and I have none over yours. This magical group that gets together and decides things (government) also has no rights over me. Freedom is not interchangeable and is mutually exclusive. We are either free or not. I am free(or at least like to imagine I am anyway) because I do not heed the government, are you?

Yeah if "100000s of people are dying " with testing on food and drugs, imagine how much without.

No one "needs " government, its just been shown in history that some form of government has helped civilization, its a choice,

If people wanted to live with no order, they'd do it.

 

Last time I checked governments never gave anyone a choice, especially before the turn of the 19th century, as I recall governments had a terrible practice of raping and pillaging and sacking cities and such.

Government is the antithesis of choice. Freedom is the antithesis of government. And where can you live nowadays where governments wont screw with you? Unless you build your own island or go deep into the Sahara or Tundra, you will always be subject to the laws of the land.

Seems like there is no choice to me at all. Only government.
