  2. Newspapers.com is a pay site that has photocopied thousands of newspapers dating back to the 1700s! It is a fantastic site for genealogists and history buffs, and helped me solve a mystery whether a certain man was my great-granduncle or not. (He was, but there are still lots of questions about him.)

    It's a trip to take, say, your grandfather's last name, year and place of birth, marriage, or death, and see what was happening then in his neighborhood. Or you can run a year and a term, like 1862 and "Marihuana" You do have to pay for it, which is the biggest downside, but if you are into genealogy or American history, it can be worth it!

    Genealogy is my other passion. I live in a sparsely populated rural county, but my family tree has more people in it than the county I live in has!
