Up until this year, any senior can sign themselves out of school no problem. This year if you are 18 years old you need you parents permission. I got to a public school in USA, is this legal?
not really to sure..have one of you older sounding friends call in as your mom or dad and say that you need to be let out for a doctors app or something
When I was in highschool (06) you had to have parent permission or a doctor's note to be excused from school. My highschool used to allow parents to call the school and ask that their kid be taken out, but that changed after kids would have friends call the school to get them out. High schools have a lot of power, for instance, they are allowed to search any of your property that is on campus such as your locker and your car. No probable cause is necessary, which is why many kids get caught with drugs in their car while at school.
No, you can't excuse yourself. When you go to pulib school you lose your rights to really do anything. I leared that the hard way.
It's total bullshit but I wasn't there when they made our public school laws O well, only 47 more days
thats why you gotta be coo like me, and dip out and go to community college. just graduated highschool this last week taking all my classes up at comm college, and im about to have my first year of my AA done too after this next quarter. runningstart FTW
in loco parentis (in place of a parent) essentially it means that by sending you to school (public or otherwise) your parents are turning over all of their parental responsibility to the school and likewise the school is accepting responsibility of you. In essence while you are at school you have no constitutional rights. That is also the reason that schools are allowed to search your locker or your backpack for drugs without your permission and without any probable cause.
Nah that isn't legal. Once you turn 18 you become your own guardian. So if your school is trying to pull some bullshit like that I would tell them to fuck off.
except the fact that when your in public school their rules apply not normal ones they can also search you for any reason they feel like unlike out in the real world so dont go giving advice when you dont know what your talking about and to the OP if your graduating in 45 days or w/e what the hell are you worrying about it now for and i dont think they are gonna attack you if you just walk out the doors ? if anything they`ll call your parents and tell them u left
Just stay in school and learn and get your work done. Last year when I was a senior we had senior priveleges and any senior who had a signed paper in the beginning of the year was allowed to sign out if they had a study last period of the day. If you have something like this then stay in school and do something useful with that time. Do your homework. Do something productive with your life. Don't try to be able to sign out of school so you can go smoke pot. Do that after you get your shit done.
stay in school dude-- i promise u and i mean i really promise u that u will thank urself for doing that 20 years down the line-- please, i beg u-- don't drop out-- learn all that shit that u don't think u need-- i'm telling u that it will help u think and decide on things that u know nothing about right now-- it will help u later in life to know why romeo loved juliet-- it will help u later in life to know what thomas meant when he said: "...rage,rage against the dying of the light"-- it will help u to know what deja vu really means-- it will help u to know why u should read Necromancer-- it will help u to know and understand why u start off as a Democrat and then later turn into a Republican-- jesus tapdancing christ, do not leave school and read all u can-- please-- u are the only hope and the future of our society-- Regards, probus
Stoner420Chick knows what the hell she's talking about. Stay in school, kids. Who cares if your 18, 19, whatever. Stay in until you've got all your shit and studying. Work hard now, play harder later. You're in highscool, you're public school's bitch, hell you're even your parent's bitch if you're still living with this. Fuck things being "legal" or not (which, cmon. Not letting a kid skip out of class is not being legal? JeeChrist..) Do your work in school so you'll be able to afford your own place and not have to worry about things being fair or not.
umm if your gonna graduate in 45 days or w/e aside from going on a shooting spree or something stupid as hell leaving early here and there is not gonna keep you out of college. and if your that worried about it dont leave its not gonna make a difference if you sign yourself out or if you just leave your still not gonna be there
Why don't you stop spreading bullshit? Your obviously like 15 and don't know how things work once your an adult... A teacher cannot search you unless you let them, yes there may be disciplinary actions against you but you do not have to let a teacher search you for any reason. So get your fuckin facts straight kid. It is the law that you must attend school until you are 18, once you are 18 it's your fuckin choice. So if you wanna sign yourself out of school or just fuckin leave nobody can stop you. Enjoy the enlightenment kid.
I didn't read the bullshit that was supposedly spread, but I gotta call bullshit on some stuff your saying. You're legally required to go to school until age 16, at that point if you want to drop out you need your parents permission since you're not yet an adult. At 18 you're free to drop out on your own...however most people don't turn 18 until their senior year, and by then what's the point? I actually never really had a choice, not that I would have dropped out, but I didn't turn 18 until a month after I graduated. Then again I may be wrong. These laws might vary by state. When I was going through school those were the rules though.
The problem with just leaving is as follows: Being 18 is a double edged sword. If you choose to not follow the rules of the institution, they can legally kick you out. If you just walk out of school one day without jumping through the school's hoops they can interpret that as you dropping out. Sure, if you're under 18 you'll just get a small truancy fine, etc. and they have to let you back in, but once you hit the age of majority they can legally not let you into the building again after that, although one offense rarely results in such action. To all those who may call bullshit on me... both of my parents are teachers, I've read the laws of public education on this matter, and I've talked about it with my (former) principal and school liason officer.
