I've always went with a straight 24 hour lighting regiment during the veg stage but I would like to try 18/6 just to see how my girls will react. the 24 hour cycle has worked great but I like to try everything just to see the results whether they be good or bad. My question is, being four weeks into the veg period could I change up the lighting from 24/0 to 18/6 without the plants freaking out and going into flowering or should I wait for my next grow to try the 18/6 photo period? Thanks for any help! BTW - I'm new to this forum and I just want to say I think it's great! Lots of great well informed peeps here! ez, PM
Shouldn't be a problem. I start my plants out on 2-3 weeks of 24/0 and move it to 18/6. I think it makes them grow more since there's a dark period. When the lights go on I can see the plants screaming "OMG LIGHT! GROW GROW GROW" But idk... helps cut out a little on the power bill.
18/6 in my opinion should only be used if you have heat issues and need a down time with the lights cause of a hot time of day or whatnot. Otherwise it will just take you longer to veg as opposed to 24hrs of light. Cannabis does not need a dark period to develop roots because they develop along with the plant growth up top.
From what I have heard is that once you choose a light schedule stick with it. Changing it up could cause the plants to hermie. ( NOT SAYING THAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN BUT THATS WHAT I HAVE HEARD). If you do switch to 18/6 they wont flower, there has to be more dark period. You are going to find people that swear by both sooooo its up to you. I am personally going to go with 24/0 for my vegging and then switch to 12/12 for flowering. Good luck in what ever you do bro. Later
you can change the light schedule any way you want as long as you aren't getting more than 10-11 hours of dark you should be fine with most strains. Most don't even get close to that during veg anyways unless you are doing 13/11 to mimic the climate for equatorial sativas which most do to accomodate sativas that usually grow outdoors.
