You may (or may not) have heard of of the 17 year old genius who managed to unlock the Apple iPhone in order for it to be used by a cellular service provider other than AT&T's... if you haven't though, check it out here: http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/ptech/08/24/iphone.unlocked.ap/index.html

The story went viral in just a few hours. His face is on the front page of nearly every news site in the nation right about now... and now he's selling the iPhone on eBay. Sounds like a pretty kosher thing to do, right?

Well, guess how much the iPhone has been bid up to? Go ahead, take a wild guess.

  2. he deserves every penny.

  3. EDIT: Ill save that when they actually pay

  4. ... is there a payment plan? I'd rather not sell my credit soul.

  5. $99,999,999.00... no fucking way, isn't that a billion dollars!?

  6. obviously someone bidded that high and is not going to pay

  7. Yea this is stupid, if a teenager can unlock it its not worth more then $1000.

    :hello:eric:HELLO:

  8. i dont know.. one of the members that bid 99,999,999.00 has been a member on ebay for over 5 years and has a 100% feedback rating...

  9. My Dad told me about this....

Kudos to the kid for figuring it out.

-rep for the idiot who pays for it.

  10. "Soon, you will be able to buy unlocked iPhones everywhere, in fact probably before this auction ends. But this is the one that started it all. The one unlocked while the steps were posted live on the blog. This isn't just an unlocked iPhone, this is a piece of history."

    ....WOW.

  11. No jimi, 99,999,999 is just under 100 million, nowhere clsoe to a billion

  12. What does "unlocked" even mean... I don't get it.

  13. lol read the very last sentence that kid wrote : "I am trying to get a hold of eBay right now as I am sure many of these bids are fraudulent. Please do not bid if you do not intend to buy."

  14. It lets you use your phone on a different service provider. iPhones are all tied to AT&T so you can only use them with an AT&T plan.

This guy has found a way to allow you to use the phone with other service providers.

    Guys one thing to note...

That is the World's SECOND Unlocked iPhone.

He's already sold the first one I'm assuming.

    EDIT: Or maybe not..

  16. Fucked that people would pay... Anything more than the regular price for a phone that you could use for a different provider...

  17. The first one is his personal phone, as stated on the eBay auction page.

  18. I feel very, very sorry for whoever actually paid for this phone. Because you can unlock an iPhone for FREE with the 10-step blog guide he posted.

  19. $25,000 dollars is still a fuck load of money to be spending on something so stupid... Feed some starving africans or something ffs!

  20. lol. a million dollar bid on eBay will not fly. this is an obvious rumor/joke
