16 you can try, 18 you can buy

  1. I'm really into studying cannabis breeding and the effects on the brain. Although I am very supportive of full legalization for many many reasons which would be another thread entirely, I have to make one strict rule. Kids fifteen years old and younger shouldn't use cannabis, because it can further schizophrenia or memory problems. This is thoroughly supported by tests and there are well documented cases of some people that have likely had a case or at least a more severe case of schizophrenia even though they had never smoked before age 15, but after 16 this is not the case. I just want to encourage everyone to strictly not supply kids under 16 with weed. I was going to let my little 14 year old brother try weed, but we have a very, very strong history of schizophrenia in our family. Considering this I have given him a long talk and supported him with records and videos of research supporting this, and I would gladly compile it again for anyone else. I also think research on cannabidiol, CBD, needs to be further researched because it actually has anti psychotic affects that may help treat psychosis like schizophrenia, and may actually be a limiting factor in psychosis inducing effects of marijuana. Unfortunately many modern strains of cannabis contain little to no cbd, and samples from across the US show that most of our weed is quite low in cbd sadly. I am also a breeder so I am going to further study these affects (learning gas chromatography right now and looking at buying a chromatograph so I can breed strains based on cbd, delta 9/8, thcv, etc as well as cbn and cbc production rates, as well as all the regular traits used in breeding). I am looking to go into some kind of medicinal horticultural breeding doctorate program (working on horticultural bachelors at the moment), so any suggestions on programs or schools would be great (and in the BC or socal area would be great ;)).

Anyways as I tell my little brother, when you're sixteen you can try, when you're eighteen you can buy. I personally think this motto should be adopted more broadly, and of course legalization and regulation would further help. I you're under sixteen you can stand to wait a few years until you try the sacred herb, many growers and enthusiasts such as myself will ensure its still here, despite what the laws might say. If you are going to die before sixteen, then fuck it, I'd give you all the weed and hash you want.

16 try, 18 buy. Pass it on and pass :smoking:it on.

  2. that explains what happened to my perfectly sane mentality at the age of 17 eh?
    should've known
    could've known
hell i probably knew it but just said fuck my psychosis at the time (15ish)
now years later finally having a GC induced epiphany ......lifes like a box o chocolates
oh shit theres my schizo kickin in again....
actually i do agree with this , not all minds were meant to be as twisted as mine
and quite frankly i dont think all minds are meant to bare what i have burdened [myself] through
then again we're all the same
    with minor differences
but in my case im am the product of all collective buildup of redundant dumbtardedness
which is necessary to harness the next generation of
    dumbtards

  3. iv been toking pretty hard since about 13.. im 18 now and no real paranoia or schizophrenia effect's have come past me. am i at risk?

  4. 1tokeovrtheline I's like to see some of your evidence. I have read numerous studies on the cannabis-schizophrenia link and not one has proven that marijuana triggers the disease. In fact there are studies that show there is no such link. All studies that support this myth fail to prove cannabis as a cause.

Schizophrenia will occur in those who are predisposed to it usually in their 20s whether or not they smoked pot. Many teens who are predisposed whether they know it or not use cannabis a coping mechanism. These studies only show that kids who are already going to be schizophrenic used pot first. Mentally ill people have a very high rate of substance abuse.

Here is one from Australia that shows this myth is bogus. As that study shows marijuana use has increased sgnificantly in the past 30 years. If marijuana exasperated the symptoms of schizophrenia we would expect to see a higher rate of it as well. That has not been the case.

The 2002 Report of the Senate Special Commitee on Illegal Drugs from Canada , one of the most comprehensive scientific inquiries on marijuana to date, concluded:

As for memory problems later in life caused by adolecent marijuana use, I am also very sceptical. If you are refering to this study, it is also pretty weak evidence. Paul Armentano, from NORML, does a great job of cutting through the media lies.

  5. This will never work, this would be like saying oh yeah little 16 year old yeah you can TRY these ciggarettes than when you turn 18 you can BUY them. Dumb, and it won't ever work. Worst idea I've ever heard/read.

  6. /Thread

To suggest this will destroy the movement...hell they don't even want to legalize it for 18 year olds but for 21 year olds.

Yet, the drafting and entering the military age is still 18...hmmm.....

  7. In United States drinking is 21 in many states, presumably because it's a more certain age of adulthood? I imagine they would treat weed the same if legalized.

I've heard this stuff about younger smokers having problems in older age, and observed smokers like this.

Many are fine, but possibly on the lazier laid back side. Then some seem to think it's causing depression for them now.

Sometimes I think it's just the propaganda working it's magic, as the mind is a very powerful thing.

Smokers that are happy and enjoy life, seem to always do well. I wonder why?

Saying this, I support the idea that it shouldn't be givven to young teens, I had my first J at the age of 16 (mostly smoking if it was going around) and didn't make a habit (buying once a week) until I was 20.

  8. The only thing the studies prove is that people with a loose screw are more likely to self-medicate then "normal" people...:bongin:...:smoking:...:yay:

  9. That makes sense I guess, my first time trying pot I was about 14 smoked a lot during that time. Then around 16 I started getting really paranoid about everything, and I haven't really changed who I smoked with since then so I know they aren't fucking with me, but I always feel like they are when I'm stoned.

I now have 0 tolerance for pot, like 2 hits of some regs gets me pretty high, which isn't a bad thing I guess but I can't handle it like I used to that's for sure.

  10. Oh my god bro.

His first time smoking alone he is going to have the hugest panic attack because he'll believe is he is going insane.

  11. That doesn't make any fucking sense. We should have a set age limit where you can buy it legally(it's going to be 21). Letting kids 'try it' when they are underage but not buy it is a great way for prohibitionists to shove it in our faces, and rightfully so. The whole reason for legalization is REGULATION, meaning underage kids have a HARDER time getting a hold of it.

  12. Woah woah woah...relax!

I honestly think its not stupid. 16+ and especially 18+ is perfectly capable of smoking a jay if they wanted to. Hell sex is more destructive for a teen than a jay ever can be!

Study after study shows NO EFFECTS when smoking marijuana, yet once people are the adults, everything they did in their youth, they wanted to make illegal.

Don't believe me? Most presidents have smoked and what not yet now, as adults, don't want the younger generation to because it is "destructive" yet look how they turned out to be..

I'm in college and most people here are successful in life and the herb isn't a deterrent of that. The lazy ones always have and always will be lazy.

  13. The presidents don't want to bear the political burden of legalizing weed.... it's not based off it's potentially "destructive" abilities. I'm in college too, and I feel I can make better choices now than I could as a 16 year old.

Shouldn't we set a bar somewhere?

21 makes the most sense politically but I think 18 would be a more realistic choice. The whole idea behind "16 you can try, 18 to buy" is just absurd.

  14. The 21 age limit is bullshit. You can go to war and die for your country but you aren't responsible enough yet to handle a beer.

Doesn't make a grain of sense

  15. I think the age of 21 is set because of the development of your liver and brain. Developing brains suffer the most under drug or alcohol use, and so, it is best to refrain from the drugs until a later age.

But what can you do. You live once and, for the most part, you live for the moment.

  16. Age restrictions promote underage substance abuse in the same way prohibition promotes drug use. Most of the world has no legal age for alcohol. In those countries children do not drink and they do not engage in excessive binge drinking when they turn 18. Age restrictions create a forbidden fruit appeal. When is the government going to stop legislating morality?

  17. That's really not true.

I traveled to some Eastern European countries this past summer and I can tell you that lots of 13-15 year olds were smoking cigarettes and a lot of 16-18 year olds were drinking.

The countries have a serious problem with alcoholism and tobacco addictions.

  18. Dumb idea man. If a 13 year old wants to smoke pot, he/she will smoke pot. 16 you can try? 18 you can buy? you can buy/try whenever you want to.

  19. They have a legal age to buy liquor in Eastern Europe. In Poland, Ukraine, Russia and Romania they enforce the legal age of 18. You're right they do have alcohol problems. I don't know why but Eastern Europe is obsessed with alcohol, it is part of their culture. To say they have a drinking problem is like saying Canada has a hockey problem.

Look at countries like Italy where they have no legal age. Parents drink wine with their children as young as 12 years old. Italians learn how to use alcohol responsibly and do not have the binge drinking and alcoholism problems of the US.

To cite an alarming statistic from the Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth: 96% of the alcohol drunk by 15-20 year-olds in America is consumed when the drinker is having five or more drinks at a time.

In the case of marijuana, binge smoking is not as much of an issue. However a legal age will not deter young people. The nanny state mentality breeds irresponsible substance users.

  20. They would never promote something like this.
