150w HPS or 240w LED which runs hotter *Poll*

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by EatMyLunch, Aug 2, 2012.

  1. Would a 240w Blackstar (or similar) LED panel produce as much heat as a Sun Systems 150w HPS light?

Please vote in the poll and provide any additional feedback, or other lighting suggestions below.

If you visit my thread in my signature link it may add more insight as to why I'm aksing. I'm currently having heat issues in the cabinet with the 150w HPS. I'm hoping to eliminate those issues by switching to LED.

Please, any and all opinions welcome. I'm really tired of fussing with the temperature.

have u considered using a cool tube? I previously used a 250w hps light kit with a built-in ballast and had heat issues as well. I recently changed to a cool tube and the heat prob has gone away.

Also, you should yield more with a 250w HPS than a 240w LED (most of them list max output, actual draw is much less).

I have never tried an LED myself, but im sure it will generate less heat as opposed to 150w sunlight system in your cabinet.

If an LED or a cool tube doesnt help with temp, then u need to look into cooling the room the grow room is in.

The Sun Systems HPS that I have will not accommodate a cool tube. :(

Ambient temps in the room I'm working in are a consistent 65-68F. So that is not the problem.

The actual draw on the 240 blackstar is something like 135 or 145w

  4. ^^yeah 150s are generally an enclosed single unit^^

even with that weird cooling set up they offer, the 150s tend to run hot. Purchased a couple for Mom's house plants.

the LED will be much cooler. most $$ up front..but if your only problem is cooling ( and you stuck with grow size), the LED.

wow, can't believe I just recommended an LED....That's far out.
