150 watt HPS vs. CFL light options

  1. OK so heres the closet layout 4ft x 2.5ft with minimal ventilation.
I want to grow 2 plants for budding and then one a mother plant to clone.
    So 3 total plants
The closet is too small for a 250 watt HPS so that is out of the question.
Heres my question...should i go with a 150 watt HPS light and some additional CFL's or save the $75 on the HPS and just do straight CFL's?

If straight CFL's what should wattages should i choose and how many?

If more info is needed just let me know
    -Thanks

  2. Your grow space is 10 square feet, right? That's not too small for a 250 from a lumen/sq.ft. standpoint (nor a 400 for that matter) but if you have poor ventilation, then CFL's would be a better bet. The rule of thumb you'll read is 100 watts of actual watts for the first plant and 50 watts for each additional plant so 200 watts for your 3 plants. Good luck on your grow!

  3. i would do both. i just finished a grow with a 150w hps and additional cfls and yielded almost 7oz of of her. check out the first grow in my sig if your interested lots of good examples of what that kind of lighting is capable of doing if used correctly. gl

  4. good to know. so you grew just 1 plant? im planning on 2 with one mother plant. how many additional CFL will i need along side of the 150 watt HPS?
