hey folks, im a first time grower but a long time lurker and reshearcher. i ordered a turbogarden ebb and flow, but the store shipped me a aeroponic turbogarden... hah SCORE! well see if i can handle it... im growing from seed to flower on a 400w HPS, the seedlings are 1-2 days old and looking great. i am using the botanicare tri-flex three part nutes along with sweets and liquid karma ph is around 6.5, but im finding it to be alittle unstable. hopefully it will stabilize... the room itself is abput 3x5x8 its light proofed and sound proofed, almost sealed. there is a vent from the main AC inside alswell as a 200 CFM blower, soon to have can filter. i have three different strains for this grow. AK-47 x Chocolate Chunk, Northern Lights, and Original Thai Bud. i got these seeds from a old hippie friend of mine whos been growing sence the 60s pull up a chair, im sure im going to need people to share my experiance with and to help me out. i will be updating this log often over the next few months. SORRY for the shitty pics, should have a digital cam in the next few days, these were taken with my shitty razor phone
wow.. nice setup for a first attempt, you obviously did your homework! Nice strains too. If the area is 5x3, then I'd reduce it a bit myself. I go for 40w per sq. ft minimum, 50 or more preferably. Over 15 sq.ft with 400w you wont get big tight buds, more popcorn. I reckon it would take 600w minimum to light that area, preferably 800 or 1000?
Update: no problems. plants are doing great, the last seed spouted today, giving us 100% sucess rate for sprouting so far. today i added a cirulation fan and my last germinated seed. it was bagseed from some dank purple-urple. so the offical line up: 7 Northern Lights (all sprouted and healthy) 3 Original Thai Bud (all sprouted and healthy) 3 AK-47 x Chocolate Chunk (all sprouted and healthy) 1 Purple-Urple bagseed (seed just cracked) the room is 5x3, but the grow table is only 3x2 (~ 65 watts per sq. foot). i think the light should be ok. i was going to get a 600, but i got a great deal on this one. i still cant get over how bright these lights are ( i had never seen one before) haha
ok so the plants are doing great, some already staring the second set of leaves. installed the exhast fan today because the temps were getting way outta hand, things are better now. whats an acceptable nutrient solution temperature? ours feels luke warm
ok so things are going good. had company over this weekend... nobody knew shit about what was going on behind that locked door plants look great. roots are now emerging from the bottom of th net pots. things should start kicking into gear soon! there seems to be 1 runt, but i still have hope for her. the room temps are perfect and the plants are enjoying it. im still concered about the res temp being too high, im going to freeze some water bottles and toss them in tomorrow. pics
wow thats a great grow you have going? Im surprised that theres not more posts!! I have a similar setup going. and i will definatly subscribe to this thread to learn. I was wondering, whats inside the bucket? is there a manafold with misters or how does the nute solution spray the pots..? Check out the thread about the diy chiller for the rez water using a water chiller to keep the rez temp in check. Good luck with your grow!
oh ya i got another quick question, are you planning to scrog? it seems like you may have crowding issues much like what i will have, and your plants are closer together than mine.
yes, there is a 25 gallon res and a 7 inch high root tray. inside the tray the misters spray roots dangling from suspended net pots. i wasent panning on a scrog, i really dont know much about how to do it right. i guess the plan was to keep the plants small. also, remember, ~half will be male and cut down before they get too big, leaving more room for each female
Ideal temp for res is about 58. You could also invest in an aquarium chiller if the water is too warm, or aquarium heater if too cold.
58 sounds alittle low for res... ive actually been told that 78 is ideal for nute uptake... but not for o2 levels and bateria growth. we put a couple large frozen bottles in, seems to be doing the trick. just got to do it even day now...hah. i have another picture update today! sorry for the quality, still using the camera phone. the plants are looking pretty good. there is already growth starting in the nodes along the main stem. im alittle suprized at how uneven they are growing. this is day six sence sprout...
very nice, i was wondering about the roots!! so the tray just sits above the res level and keeps the roots from standing in water? I made a homeade version, and need to update mine before it becomes a problem... looking great btw. from what ive read, nute temps should be 65-75f
yes, the roots are in a seperate tray then the nutes. a water pump in the res pumps water through tubing into the root tray where its piped to like 20 spray nozzles. its working good, some roots are 1.5 feet long already! the Thai stain plants seem to have alittle drooping going on... any thoughts about this? could this mean something?
ok so an update. i have some good news and bad news... the good news is that these babies look great at 9 days old... the bad news is that there is deffinatly something wrong with the roots already, and im perplexed as to whats going on. check the pictures... the quality dosent really show what it looks like, but the roots are covered in a greenish brown slime that smells alittle funky. looks like algae. i have little growing experiance and dont know what steps to take from here so any advise would be tramendously helpfull. yesterday i changed the nutes, added a good dose of h202 and a good dose of superthrive. didnt seem to stop the "algae?" from spreading. i hope its not root rot! it just dosent make any sence. the plants look totally healthy. i also changed the brand of nutes. the stuff i got is a new one part mostly organic liquid nute that the people at the grow shop were raving about. its called sugar peak. hydro-fusion... or something like that. the plants seem to really like it... now for the pics. plants are 9-10 days old from seedling
so no advice on the roots huh? i dont want to be the only one posting here! so, to clairify, im a first time grower, and the condition of my roots is worrying me. anyone that has anything to say about algae on roots, please come forth! but besides the roots, the plants are doing great. i woke up to a whole new set of leaves, the next set well under constuction. yesterday, i misted all the roots with a diluted h2o2 mix, let sit for 15 min, then sparyed with distilled water. seemd to have helped somewhat. today the roots look alittle heathier, not to mention all the plants gained alot of new root mass last night, and algae levels seem to be the same. so atleast its not spreading.
I'm no hydro grower at all, but if it's green it probably does photosynthesis so covering it up to make sure it's dark would do the trick. So make sure the roots are not receiving light and any algea on there will die.
hello! plants are looking great! im thinking about topping/fimming some of them, but sence the plants are really starting to get crowded, im planning on forcing flower within in the next few days, possably tomorrow. is this ok? is it too much stress to top and flower at the same time? the stalks are all very very thick, they have about 4-5 sets of leaves comming off the main stalk and many new leaves and brances comming from the nodes. the roots look great, after a h202 treatment and a good cleaning the algae is no longer a problem. i added 2 drops superthrive to the misting bottle, the plants seem to really like it. overall, i am very happy with the state of these plants. they are 16-18 days old at this point. even the one runt has really taken off and im glad to say its proved its worth to keep around for flowering PICS
I've missed this grow until now, so sorry I couldn't help before. The light could have been getting to your roots somehow. Once the roots get a little bigger they wont be getting hit by light from the cracks in the lids. Also, lift up the main cover now and again to make sure your misters aren't clogged and all roots are getting ample spray of the nutes. I use rhizotonic to handle a lot of root issues. I don't know if your nutes offer some sort of root stim. or a version of Cannazyme or Rhizotonic. These are great to keep the roots happy. My journals are somewhere on her that I did back in the day on a similar aero. Do a search if you'd like. Don't worry about the crowding while in veg. No rush and def. don't worry about crowding until a couple weeks into bloom. Veg. time doesn't really have too much purpose exept to keep them healthy, bloom is when all the tricking out and fun begins IMO. I use ebb and flow for veg. and then switch to aero for bloom because not much makes a dif. in veg. Fim them and keep them in veg. until your ready. My rez. felt too warm before, but I never did anything with it. I just thought it may feel warm, but it's never gonna get more than 75-78 degrees tops. Take care hope this helps. Piney
Your system sounds cool, glad to hear you have them going well now. Strains sound good too, I'll be watching!
