I'm looking at both a 14" beaker-bottom and an 18" straight tube. They're identical in price, and both have ice pinches and the same downstem and bowl. Not open to other suggestions, just name which would be a better investment. Personally I'm leaning towards the 18" straight tube at the moment but still open to both.
For some reason straight tubes have always appealed to me more than beakers. I think it's the whole "lab" look I see when looking at a beaker. Aesthetically it simply reminds me more of a scientists lab set rather than a smoking device. I think it unfortunately detracts from the overall appearance. But that's just my (high-ass) opinion...
Whoever says beakers knock over easier is a little ridiculous. Beaker allows for more water so will have a slower clear but still work perfectly. A straight tube will be like a punch of smoke to the lungs. Personally I like straight however my first was a beaker and it was phenomenal. The choice is yours OP.
I'd go with the straight. If you break the beaker part the bong its useless but if you accidently break the base of the straight it may still be useable.
Alright everyone, thanks a lot! Looks like I'll be getting a new straight tube to add to my collection.
I prefer straight personally because of the lack of drag. When I hit my straight piece it takes literally less than 0.1 of a second to clear the smoke... It's wonderful.
