hi all, swim has a question and please forgive me if it sounds a bit dumb but swim would like some advice before swim trys it. Here goes, swim has recently come across 1000 watt metal halide floodlight fixtures with 1000 watt bulb but swim says it feels light, like there is no ballast in it and it also has some really thick heavy duty wire but no plug, swim was thinking of wiring a 110 plug and flex to the fixture (them yellow 3 pin ones) and plugging it into a 110 volt transformer swim has sat in the cellar, swims question is will this act like a ballast? Will it work at all? Please please give advice good or bad as i dont want anything bad to happen to swim. Thanks all.
If it doesn't have a ballast, it's not going to work. If he isn't sure, he should open them up and check. Flood lights usually have the ballast mounted inside, but they can also be mounted externally, in which case you are pretty much SOL.
