11 Day Old Plants: How I Solved My Heat Problem

  1. Those of you who are familiar with me likely know that I have been having quite a dilemma. I live in a tropical climate where the sun gets super hot and bright during the day. Obviously, the brightness is good, but the heat is a killer! My dilemma so far has been the inability to separate the heat from the sun from the light of the sun.

Therefore, I have been giving my plants very little direct sunlight each day, and they have gotten quite leggy at times because of it. We are on lockdown where I am at, and ordering anything in the mail would take weeks to arrive. So I decided to make dues with what I have.

To solve the heat problem, I took my little, tiny black pots and put them into a black tote full of soil (the same soil that is in the pots) and placed an umbrella above them when the sun is directly atop of them. I took a temp yesterday after the plants had been out for two hours, and the edge of the soil near the container wall was 37.4!!! Fortunately, these are pure sativas that are acclimated to the heat of the tropics. Still, that's way too hot!

I took another reading today and the same spot was 28.6, a full 11 degrees cooler! The soil is very porous, and I poked holes in the bottom for drainage. The soil that surrounds these individual buckets keeps them nice and cool. I am proud to say that I finally solved my problem at least until this lockdown ends.

  2. like in Australia you offer the plants some shade during 10am-2pm, build a breeze way with local plants even bush, cover the root line in old compost sax if white or if rich grow inside under lights

germers as above should stay in the shade (under lights) until at least 6 inches(150mm) tall...IMO

avoid using local 'dirt' as it holds way too many bugs ..

    good luck
