10 G13 GigaBud 1400wt Advance Nutes Mod BB's

Discussion in 'Hydroponic Grow Journals' started by knr117, Dec 19, 2010.

  1. Hi All, been awhile since I ran a Journal so I figured now is as good a time as any. I have 8 G13 Gigabud's along with 2 home made strain my and I made on our own. We had a male g13 power skunk so instead of killing it we used it to pollinate a female gigabud. we got a shit ton of seeds from this plant. I gave about 40 to a friend of mine and he planted them outside and let'em run. The tallest plant got over 17ft and in the end he only had 11 males outta the 40. He was really happy and the plants were just plain sic! So, I had a few seeds left and decided to add 2 of them to this grow. really this strain grows much slower than the pure giga does so I'm betting the giga will be ready way before the powerbud is (don't have a name for our seeds, choose the 1st name from the father and mother so Gc'ers could tell them apart). The specs are as follows;

8 clones using Rumps cloner desgin with my own mods.
    2 PowerBud seeds.
    1 1000wt HPS
    1 400wt HPS
    Room is 9x8x6.5
    PVC hand made scorg net
    Mylar on walls
Reflect plastic on floor formed into water catcher in case of leak.
Ebb/gro system modded into Rumps BB's. Each has own air along with the res as well.
Advance Micro/Bloom using Lucas math and a touch of Big bud added to level ppm's at water add back.
25gph pump running 24/7 into back 2 buckets to maintain constant water flow.
Been on 12/12 for a week now after 3wk Veg.
veg ppm's were running bout 1100 with res change after half of the 25gal was added back into the system.
Had some nute burn issues so I cut the ppm back to 850 at the 12/12 switch.
PH will float from 5.7-6.3 then back again. Maybe added total of 18tesp of PH down over the whole grow.
All plants in rockwool with light protect caps.
    Using 6in net pots.
1 4in fan on exjust side of lights with 1 6in black and decker blower modded to fit inline carbon filter on blow side.
Temps are low, 77f light on 64f light off.
    humidity is round 22%
Buckets are the small 3gal with a 3gal res total water round 25gal

    ------------- Note -------------

Pic label 2/2.b is a gigabud that I infected with root rot a total of 5 times. My goal was to find a way to cure the rot as fast as possible. This took me over 9mths to do. During that time this 1 plant was the only plant that I worked with. Once I found a way that worked for me to kill the shit I started this grow and figured this poor plant deserved to flower as she shes fit. Other than very dark green color from nute overdose there are no other signs of stress despite all the infections she lived threw. no signs of Hermie either. She has re-grown her roots a total of 6 times and they now fill the bucket almost full. Her pics are labeled "2"
    ----------- end -------------------------

Pics below were taken with my Blackberry. it picked up the HPS flicker. tried to fix the best I could. Am going to take better pics in a few days and post.
been putting this off and decided tonights the night and dam the blackberry.

All advise, comments and such welcome....

Also MUCH THANKS to White Widow Man, Rumpleforeskin,
Budslinger, and last but not least Mr. Farmer.
These guys have taken the time to help me in so many ways. Sometimes they even make me think by pointing me in the direction of the correct answer so I learn for myself. And there are many other growers here that have helped me as well. In truth I would need a thread to each of them just to say Thanks. However the growers noted above have always answered my questions many times when they didn't have to. In today world that is a rare gem indeed.

Also have 2 Mom's and will post pics of them as well in a few days...

  2. Very nice setup. Can't wait for the next update!

  3. Looking good... subbed;)

  4. Small update tonight,,

My PH meter too a sh^t so go to go to hydro store for new 1. PPM's had fallen overnight from 727 to 635 and since I started them off at 800 I figured it was time to add back. Also they had drank up bout 5gal in 2 days. Raised PPm's to 950 this time.

I'm not to worried bout the meter, this system has been moving in range from 5.8 to 6.3 almost like clock work. But as many of you know the very min you start to depend on that and stop checking is the very min something will go wrong.

Added back 5gal along with some micro/bloom and a pinch of big bud.

Also pic of Mom is added today. In the 1st pic you will see a G13 GigaBud. She is bout 4mths old and has been trimmed and roots trimmed many times. Today I took off 2 top branches for a total of about 10 clones and pitched'em in the trash (sad yes but no room yet):(.

Pic 2 is a White Russian, She is bout 2 mths old. She is kinda small for 2 mths but I let'em grow as they wish. PPm on Russian is 650. Any more and it starts to climb. Giga is bout 800. PH floats same range as grow room above.

    Room temp is 72/75

    Advance Micro/Bloom per LF

    604wat of 65K CFL's

Rumps BB's with 2 stones per 5gal bucket

    Advise, Comments, Welcome...

Ha, nice to see ya. Pull up a chair and wish me luck...

An HONOR as always my friend. Thanks for stopping by...

  8. Myles117, nice ta see ya!!! Gonna try to do you proud...

Can I ask, you use the 117 same as I, does your 117 refer to Halo, or something else? If you can't answer and reason needs to be James Bond-ish Thats cool. Thers a whole story behind me and it's not Halo related but many think it is.

Welcome, was gonna take some better pics today while lights out but I got up late and gotta get to the hydro store. Bear with me and I'll get better pics very soon.

  9. mines halo related  wish there was a deeper meaning but no lol.

I was a halo maniac (mainly halo 1 still to this day) but played 2 online for years. I deleted my live account n never got a 360 cuz it was sucking up too much time. Def my fav game tho n there are some very well done books about the whole storyline.

  10. In this post I am uploading pics from a non stressed clone (on left) and the clone I used to experiment with root rot (on right). The main reason I'm doing this is because many times when new growers ask questions concerning stress they often worry bout temps, nutes, CO2 and such. This pic shows there are other side affects to stress. Pay close attention to the difference in how the 2 leafs look. You'll be able to pick the stressed 1 out real easy.

When looking at this pic keep in mind both plants have the very same Mum. They both now are in the same system with the same nutes. The stressed plant wasn't put into the system till the un-stressed clones caught up with the stressed one and were at the same height and close to the same root mass.

As stated above the stressed plant was infected 5 times and allowed to re-grow. It endured many treatments and flushes and extreme periods of heat and cold.

It will be interesting to see what kind of bud production this plant has along with the quality of the bud once cured.

I also welcome any comments on this pic.

    just found a good example

  12. Here it's COD, never got into Halo much. I was given a nickname many years ago by my peers at the time. Problem was there were many other people that had the same name. So I added the numbers from my unit (117) so others would know when they were talking to me.

It kinda stuck after that and is still with me almost 20yrs later. My Son put it at the end of his gamer tag and then before I knew it there were others that joined his clan and did the same thing. He put me into a tournament some mths back called the "Frag Cup". 1st time I came in a clan meeting I was shocked because I was looking at all these gamer tags that ended in 117. For some reason they took a vote and decided that all clan members must have 117 in there name. I pointed out at the time that most players would think that the numbers were a ref to halo and maybe they should take them outta there names.
Instead they decided to add Devils to the front of the tag and 117 to the rear then whatever name they want in the middle. Its funny, a nickname given to me by 1 dude in Texas in 1993 is still being used by me and 18 kids. Funny how shit happens...

  13. hahaha goofy shit

  14. In your view, 1ce the grow was over did it affect the bud any?

I have found many leafs that look like the 1 I posted and the 1 you posted as well. I personally feel some of it is caused by the nutes. I just started using the Lucas formula so I'm still kinda learning it. But because I'm only using 2 nutes I find my self scratching my head when I run into nute burn issues or lack of 1 nute or another.

So I end up running some clearex threw the system then letting the plants run till I see the leafs start to droop a little then, clean the system and add new nutes at 600 and go from there.

Ant6oher thing is cause I'm running 1400watt if I plug in a small heater it kicks my breaker so temps aren't getting above 75 and night temps are at 60. As we all know cold temps means the plants don't need as much nutes. After this grow is done fixing this problem is a must...

  15. do you check the ppm of your nutrient mix? if you know you are using enough it may be from too much fert in ya res.

the leaf in my pic was a papaya bout 2 years back that I put in flowering to sex n then put back into veg. It got tricked n confused as I out it backk in flowering a week or two after. Never produced much but I blame myself n what I did to her lol.

  16. Using the "Grow" formula is simply redundant. Everything in the "Grow" bottle is already in the other two bottles ;)
Taken from a post on angelfire...

Where the 100N-100P-200K-60Mg target profile relates to General Hydroponics Flora Series 3 part liquid fertilizer products, the same profile can be mixed without using any of the GH Grow component. If one carefully reads the labels, he'll find the Micro component actually contains more N than the Grow, and the Grow component contains nothing else that isn't already contained in the Micro and Bloom components. Substituting a little more of the Micro component to make up for the missing Grow precludes the use of the Grow component altogether.

    I don't understand how your nute strength is 600 PPM when you're using the Lucas formula:confused: 8ml - 16 ml should put you between 1100 & 1300

You're temps are not that bad but if it bothers ya , run an extension cord from another room till ya find an outlet thats on another breaker ;)

  17. Sorry I should've been a little more clear as to what I'm doing. To answer your question the reason is because I am calculating the PPM's based on the total PPM I want. So if I want say 1000 then I do the math to get me that amount. In truth I think your right in the purest form of the formula it's 1 part Micro to 2 parts bloom. Many threads not only here but on other sites as well debate the following question; "is the LF still the LF if a grower alters the base math to suit ones own needs"?

For me personally Rump and White Widow have taught me allot but I don't follow everything they do to the letter. I've altered Rumps buckets so much that one could make the argument that the design is mine but in my world it isn't. The base design is still Rumps. I only mention this because I have been in many threads debating these issues and I've found it better to state my stance in an attempt to stem off the debate.

So to answer your question, I changed the math. From looking at the grow now it has many signs of over fert. I've ran clearx threw 2 times and then allowed the system to run for 3 days. The result was; the leafs started to fall within hours of no nutes and just plain PH water. So that tells me my girls weren't to happy when I took there food away. But I stuck to my guns.

On the 3rd day I put the nutes back and the leafs were standing tall within 30min.

Before I used Advance's nute cal to the letter. Advance changes there amounts and recommendations very often. But I like there products. So I decided to switch to the LF because it allowed me to still use advance products but do away with all the added fluff and stop the need of changing my forumals everytime advance changes there's.

With my Mom's it has worked well but with the girls in flower it has posed me some problems because if they show signs of over fert then I'm kind stuck because if your using only 2 products then it's kinda hard to take 1 away and add another. SOooo, I must be doing something wrong because we all know LF works.

Everytime I bump the PPM's up to above the 1000 range leafs turn dark green or curl under and a few start to turn left or right.

This could be because of temps, PH or any number of reasons as I'm sure you will agree. The real problem here isn't advance or LF, it's me not having something in the proper range.

Today the plant in the photo labeled "2" split her net pot down the side. The roots are just massive and the size of the buckets are 3gal!! She's taking up a lot of room and if she didn't have a res she'd be in big trouble. Thats whats so confusing to me. they have so many signs of happy little plants but they also have a few signs that make me think they aren't happy bout something.

(kinda like us humans after Thanksgiving dinner. were real happy with the dinner but are tummy don't feel so good).

I've tried many things but the 1 thing I haven't tried is running the system true to the LF math. It's becoming more accepted that are plants draw different nutes over PH ranges which is why Advance and others run the forumulas as they do so I've questioning as to what the right move is.

I tooki 9mths off to work with root rot only. This is my 1st grow back so I'm a little rusty but I really like how simple the LF is. Because growing isn't my full time job I need something simple that works.

So, I'm still learning. My grow room is well hidden and I don't have access to other Ele because of this. The up side is lower temps = lower smell but I'm gonna have to find a way after this grow to bring the temps up during winter and down in summer. Many things need addressed in this grow room.

In truth my wife and kids want me to become a full time grower and turn my business over to others. We have a room that is 18x18, my wife wants me to use it for growing. This space is huge and if I can't get my little 9x8 running then i don't see how I can go bigger just yet.

  18. Did you get fruit from it?

Also do you think we could grow a dwarf peach or apple tree in BB's?

My pump runs 24/7 so the nutes are in the whole system (if I understood your post correctly)

I'm not familiar with using AN with the Lucas Formula.
When you said LF before I just ass-u-me-d that it was GH nutes:rolleyes:

I wish I had a woman who wanted me to grow MORE
My last relationship ended because I was given an ultimatum, "Stop growing, or I'm leaving!"
I replied in "kind" ;), "Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out :laughing::smoking:

Anyway, got mah feets propped up... waitin' to see what's next ;)

  20. Ok, On Sun the PPm's were down to 448 from 850. They were also drinking about a 3gal every 2 days. With the temps as low as they are I don't think that is to bad.

I raised the PPM up to 1000. Today the PH is running in range. Bout 2am this morning the PH was 5.6 and PPm were at 943. Today the PH is at 5.8 and PPM is at 923 and needed 4gal of water.

    And some more bud porn:D
