OK folks...was thinking about buying a whole tent and whatnot, but quite honestly my preferred location is the attic - seems like the perfect spot, with natural ventilation, and very little to buy to grow except there is one problem...there is no electrical outlets up there (which is why I originally discounted the location)! But, I'm still trying to figure a way to make it work. Here's the problem: the attic only has is 1 fluorescent light tube, and like I said, no electrical outlets. I'm in the middle of reading up all about lighting, but my question is whether having just 1 light tube (T5) would even work for just two plants? Or is it a lost cause?
ok...just looked and I actually have T8 bulbs in there right now. It's also 4 ft long. So, from what I understand, I'd have to stick with a T8 bulb. Here's the bulb that's currently in there: TL-D 36W/33-640 1SL - Philips
Be a lost cause. Run a extension cord up there get a heavy duty one from home depot. Order a T5 panel, suspend from ceiling or get a stand.
Unfortunately, I can't get an extension cord up there, not if I want to keep the door shut/locked and not draw any attention to what's going on. so it sounds like even if I change out the light tube to 6500K for vegetative and 3000K for flowering, it's what I originally thought: the one light tube overhead won't work.
Take the plug off the cord and drill a small hole in the attic floor trough the celling over a socket outlet in your room , reattach the plug and there you go
Is your current fixture hard wired in the attic? If so you could remove that fixture and replace it with receptacles or hard wire a T-5 fixture
If you wanted to be safe on it hire a electrician to install a outlet. Easy...will cost some though. If he asks why any reason would suffice.
Or you could leave your light in and turn the power off in the attic or house to be safe split the wire and use a joiner to join a new cable from your existing one to your desired location . leave a foot of a gap min from the join to the light, youtube is full of handy vids to help you complete your task, its very easy and cheap to do and the joiner fittings are safe as hell
I should have added that I'm not doing any construction on the place/light since I'm in a rental. Just trying to see if I can grow without having to buy 500 euros of equip - trying to use what I have on hand already (while still going the indoor route). If I can't make this work, I can't make this work. But I just thought I'd throw this noob should throw it out there first and see what others thinks.
It is defo doable since you cant make changes to it the easiest way would be to change the original fitting so you can accommodate more lights. or to run the lead trough the floor/celling. that way when your finished you just have to fill a small 1/2 inc hole
