with my fluros i use metal hooks on the ceiling and ratchet straps... that makes it really easy to keep the lights 3-4 inches away from the plants..
the poster above is partially right... t5 t8 and t12 are all different types of ballasts/bulbs and refer to the thickness of the bulbs t5 are...

Wow, talk about false information.. ever heard of a 5 inch in diameter fluorescent tube?? the t8's i run are about an 1 1/4 in diameter (eyeballed)...
arent we both right?? lol t5 balasts take only t5 bulbs, t8's take only t8's... so it refers to the balast AND the bulb.. its a t5 bulb for a t5...
t5, t8, and t12 are all different types of fluorescent BALASTS t12 - not efficient, not enough lumens, not good for growing t8 - good, but not...
