Entertaining Bit I Read...

  1. So I found this little story that's been circulating around and I found it pretty hilarious:

    "I am a conservative.
This morning I was awoken by my alarm clock powered by electricity generated by the public power monopoly regulated by the U.S. Department of Energy.

I then took a shower in the clean water provided by a municipal water utility.

After that, I turned on the TV to one of the FCC-regulated channels to see what the National Weather Service of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration determined the weather was going to be like, using satellites designed, built, and launched by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

I watched this while eating my breakfast of U.S. Department of Agriculture-inspected food and taking the drugs which have been determined as safe by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

At the appropriate time, as regulated by the U.S. Congress and kept accurate by the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the U.S. Naval Observatory, I get into my National Highway Traffic Safety Administration-approved automobile and set out to work on the roads build by the local, state, and federal Departments of Transportation, possibly stopping to purchase additional fuel of a quality level determined by the Environmental Protection Agency, using legal tender issued by the Federal Reserve Bank.

On the way out the door I deposit any mail I have to be sent out via the U.S. Postal Service and drop the kids off at the public school.

After spending another day not being maimed or killed at work thanks to the workplace regulations imposed by the Department of Labor and the Occupational Safety and Health administration, enjoying another two meals which again do not kill me because of the USDA, I drive my NHTSA car back home on the DOT roads, to my house which has not burned down in my absence because of the state and local building codes and Fire Marshal's inspection, and which has not been plundered of all its valuables thanks to the local police department.

And then I log on to the internet -- which was developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration -- and post on Freerepublic.com and Fox News forums about how SOCIALISM in medicine is BAD because the government can't do anything right."

It's pretty absurd how every self proclaimed conservative is suddenly ranting about the evils of government even though every minor detail of their life is impacted by it. Literally every day we rely on publicly funded institutions. Could some anti-reformist please explain why they think that their government can't/shouldn't reform health care? It boggles my mind how these people think...

  2. You should learn about economics, and why operating at a loss is a bad thing.

Just because a service exists and people are happy with it does not mean that it is the best means of delivering the service. Do you ever pay attention to the national debt? The US is facing total insolvency because of your ignorant attitude.

Some of those public services you listed are fine with conservatives, as they are handled at a local state level (like water and roads). But all of the centralized, behemoth Federal programs you mentioned (FDA, FCC, DOA, DOT, EPA, FEDERAL RESERVE??!, USPS) suck balls. You would know this if you learned from books and not chain letters.

Fiscal conservatives tend to think long term, while fiscal liberals think about short term political goals, like getting elected on a message of "free" stuff. Granted, you probably can't distinguish between the two.

  3. I don't really want to go through the whole thing but:

This morning I was awoken by my alarm clock powered by electricity generated by the public power monopoly regulated by the U.S. Department of Energy a monopoly which was responsible for rampant, dishonest price gouging in California during Grey Davis (D)'s governorship. Isn't it great we're forced to buy power from only one company, so all they have to do to make more money is raise prices?

I then took a shower in the clean water provided by a municipal water utility.

After that, I turned on the TV to one of the FCC-regulated channels,
because if the government doesn't decide what I can and can't watch, who will?, to see what the National Weather Service of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration determined the weather was going to be like, using satellites designed, built, and launched by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. What a great use of billions of tax dollars, now I don't have to look outside to see what the weather will be like anymore.

I watched this while eating my breakfast of U.S. Department of Agriculture-inspected food and taking the drugs which have been determined as safe by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration
, until they get recalled that is. But then I can sue!

At the appropriate time, as regulated by the U.S. Congress and kept accurate by the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the U.S. Naval Observatory, I get into my National Highway Traffic Safety Administration-approved automobile and set out to work on the roads build by the local, state, and federal Departments of Transportation
, here the US is proud world leader in traffic fatalities per capita, possibly stopping to purchase additional fuel bought from countries with rampant human rights violations, of a quality level determined by the Environmental Protection Agency, using legal tender issued by the Federal Reserve Bank, an unregulated wing of the federal government responsible for, among other things encouraging buying habits which caused the great depression.

I think you see my point.

  4. The government can't reform health care because they're in bed with insurance companies and the pharmaceutical companies. Both insurance and pharma companies want this bill to pass because they're going to make hundreds of billions of dollars off of it.

Wow, after 70 years of American exceptionalism suddenly everyone is so cynical.

Tell this to every other country in the industrialized world and they will laugh at you. They've all spent more in stimulus money and all of them emerged from this recession ahead of the United States. At least the Democrats are spending money by investing it back into their own economy, unlike the self proclaimed 'fiscal conservatives' who spend it on waging wars to protect oil interests and keep their base waving flags and calling liberals unpatriotic. And you say that these centralized federal programs suck balls? Then why the fuck are you against reformation? Lack of regulation by free market conservatives is the reason the U.S. is in this mess. Reactionary douche bags like you have brought America to it's knees over the past 8 years and now you're trying to tell the rest of the country what to do. Fiscal conservatism is a fucking joke.

Insurance companies are by far the hardest anti-reform lobbyist. The average middle class American is taking it in the ass because of monopolistic practices and a lack of regulation, but they are being constantly flooded with lies and propaganda about how evil any industry that isn`t 100% private is so that insurance companies can continue. It`s completely retarded how you pay way more than any other western country yet 50 million of your fellow citizens have no insurance. For fucks sake you can`t take a car on the road without insurance but apparently it`s not necessary to insure your own life.

  6. China won't.

Do you smoke crack? Look at Japan's stagflation of the 90's. Look at FDR's Great Depression.

Politicians do not know how to spend money, and they never have. It will go to whomever has the most influence over their re-election.

Those aren't fiscal conservatives... those are keynesian liberals, just like you...

I'm not against "reformation". I want to remove political corruption from our centrally planned corporatist economy.

Isn't if funny how capitalism is still the scapegoat in our economy, even though it isn't capitalist? The reason we are in this mess is because of the business cycle, which is created by the Federal Reserve. Counterfeitting currency and artificial interest rates... real "free market"!

It is no crime to be ignorant of economics, which is, after all, a specialized discipline and one that most people consider to be a ‘dismal science.' But it is totally irresponsible to have a loud and vociferous opinion on economic subjects while remaining in this state of ignorance.

  7. you do realize the guy pays for all those benefits

its not like the government-sponsored water fairy magically brings water to his shower

  8. He should be fucken grateful that they force him to pay and don't give him any other options. Otherwise he might have to spend time searching the market for the optimal price and quality his budget would allow, and potentially get a cheaper and better service. Fucken unappreciative bastard....

  9. This guy was too easy. I can't wait until he and the rest of his party wakes up. Though his chain email was cute, it is easily refutable.
